Some items within a PTK-generated Portal carry a // at the beginning of their path (e.g., in catalogued objects). This results in errors when trying to rename or delete them. As the Portal defines its own user interface classes, overriding the general editing/managing classes (e.g., in PortalFolder.py), I wonder if You suffer from similar errors or if there is something wrong with the/my setup. Any hints would be appreciated, thanks, Ralf Herold # mailto:ralf.herold@charite.de
Like them? Hate them? Have something better? There are really basic and before I go and create my own I want to make sure that no one has done anything else. Thanks, J

I think ZDiscussion are based on Confera. Which from what I understand is now 'bad' because it's so old. Squishdot is based on this and problems have now started emerging because Squishdot is also very old and doesn't do its indexing in the 'new ways' ;-) Recommendations in the past have included the KM|Net News product and of course the PTK. You might like to consider these... cheers, Chris
I looked at Squishdot and it seemed fine, but not really a discussion group, board etc. It is a website in and of itself. I am looking for something to replace WWWBoard, UBB or Phorum. I would love to build a SQL backend for all of that but don't have the time right now. After playing with ZDiscussions it is not bad. I have been able to hack a few things to get them to work a bit more like most board (sorting orders, replies). I have not been able to get my hands on or even view the PTK. J

Were you not able to download the 0.7 snapshot of the PTK? http://www.zope.org/Products/PTK should have it. or are you having install troubles? srl
Install troubles. I could give it another shot. I am, though, having a good time with ZDiscussions. Building in some features that other boards have. I will have to hand it back to Mike at some point. J

Actually, I believe ZDiscussion is based on a newer set of code than Confera, and is built with ZClasses and python. Which is not to say that it is actively maintained...

Note that KMNN is not really a "discussion" system... it's more of a news posting system. The PTK now has the ability to declare objects "Discussable". This is pretty cool, and probably the way you'd want to go with new development... Kevin
