Look at the source of the page where you see that, if your browser tries to interpret the return value as html, this will hide things like <type 'bla'>. You were right, I can't believe I didn't even think of looking at the source (although the things I've managed not to think of over the last couple of days have been quite amazing - sorry everyone, I hope I'm not the only one who sometimes misses the obvious under duress!).
