Let me jump in here with an observation.
I've recently setup APE, Zope 2.7b2 and subversion. APE seems plenty fast, so I don't see the value in re-importing the file system contents back into ZODB.
Why do you want to do that? Why not just leave everything in an APE fs ?
I'm using APE 0.7 + Zope 2.6.2 and, in our configuration, it is very sloooooooooooow. I don´t know why. Starting Zope takes more than 1 min using APE and just a few seconds using FileStorage. And working with the site is noticeably slower. I like APE and want to stay using it; copying back and forth between APE and FileStorage lets me have the best of both worlds. Hmm, what's your host OS and file system type? I'm using Ape 0.7.1 on ext3 on RH Linux 9 -- Brad Clements, bkc@murkworks.com (315)268-1000 http://www.murkworks.com (315)268-9812 Fax http://www.wecanstopspam.org/ AOL-IM: BKClements

Windows 98 on a PII with 256MB, Windows ME on a similar machine, and Windows 2000 on PIII with 512MB. Data.fs has 8~10Mb and contains about 1000 objects. Gabriel Genellina Softlab SRL

Wow, well my project is much smaller. Data.fs is 1.9 meg (probably much less if I pack it) About 5 meg in 286 "items" in APE storage. This is a P4 1.7 mhz -- Brad Clements, bkc@murkworks.com (315)268-1000 http://www.murkworks.com (315)268-9812 Fax http://www.wecanstopspam.org/ AOL-IM: BKClements
