RE: [Zope] ZopePacks: A Proposal for a new Zope Product...
-----Original Message----- From: Butch Landingin [mailto:butchland@yahoo.com]
Hi all,
I've created a proposal for a new Zope product which I'm in the process of building.
The url of the proposal is:
http://www.zope.org/Members/butchland/ZopePackProposal/index_html
Its a long document and it suffers a little in the succintness/clarity department (sorry about that :()
In summary, I'm proposing a mechanism by which we can manage ZClasses and other objects (e.g. Folders) exported via .zexp files and somewhat make the process of deploying ZClass-based applications easier and error-free.
I hope you take the time out to read it and give me your valuable opinion, advice, and help.
A very good proposal, Butch. Why not include Python products as well? Granted, you have to restart Zope for them, but the dependency checks alone would make it very worthwhile, a bit like RPMs. The format developed for a ZopePack could also include information on where to find the latest version, and the ZopePackProduct could even check for newer versions on demand. No downloading to the server with automatic install though, unless we develop some kind of signing scheme, and other security checks. Heck, we could even adjust Zope.org Products to support ZopePacks in some way. -- Martijn Pieters, Software Engineer | Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com | Creators of Zope http://www.zope.org | mailto:mj@digicool.com ICQ: 4532236 | PGP: http://wwwkeys.nl.pgp.net:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xA8A32149 -------------------------------------------
