Turbo Intranet -- what is it?
My employer approached me regarding implementing Zope Turbo Intranet at the office. He gave me some information regarding the training session (http://www.zope.com/Training/TurboIntranetTraining), but I haven't been able to find any solid information on what exactly "Turbo Intranet" is. What is it? Is "Turbo Intranet" a product in and of itself? Is it a collection of products that can be installed separately? Some of the bullets on the flyer suggest that it includes the CMF, Casey's ExternalEditor product and Jens' LDAPUserFolder product. Is it a collection of products (such as those listed) with some sort of extra enhancements? TIA, -D -- He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs 13:20 http://dman.ddts.net/~dman/
TurboIntranet is an application built on top of Zope, CMF, and several other libraries. There is an actual "TurboIntranet" product, which contains content types like "Contact", "Contact List", "Event", "Calendar", "Project", "Task", and other intranet-specific sorts of objects. The product glues them together in such a way that it is reasonable to use the system out of the box as an intranet. On Tue, 2003-02-25 at 14:14, Derrick 'dman' Hudson wrote:

As this is the first time I hear about it, I actually want to know: Where is it :-) Can't find it on zope.org or Google, only a training course. Jurgen

Jurgen - the link is relatively new (Google may not have picked it up yet): http://www.zope.com/Training/TurboIntranetTraining Note that this is a ZC offering that *combines* a packaged product with advanced training (so that you can customize the product for your organization, as well as learn about advanced Zope / CMF concepts). The link above should have all of the info. If it still leaves things unclear, please let me know so I can fix it! Thanks, Brian Lloyd brian@zope.com V.P. So... at the risk of being a bit thick, Zope Turbo Intranet is a proprietary product which is only available for purchase when bundled with training? I take it that "visible source software" means that this is covered by something more restrictive than the Zope Public License? If there is a way of buying the product by itself, that's left unclear on your site. I imagine there might be people interested who are competent enough to bring themselves up to speed and are unable to make the trip to Virginia. If there is a product-only price available, that would be interesting to know about. Thanks, Dylan

Yes - the ZVSL allows buyers to obtain (and change) the source but not redistribute it. Ongoing maintenance is available that provides CVS access to get updates or even contribute functionality in a sort of mini-community.

You're right. We're open to selling it w/o training, but the info sheets don't spell that out. I'll work on fixing that. In the meantime, if you want to talk to someone about pricing, you can use the contact info on zope.com. Brian Lloyd brian@zope.com V.P. Engineering 540.361.1716 Zope Corporation http://www.zope.com
