I fought to get zope and plone installed and after much fighting succeeded, but now I am stuck with zope running and I need to stop it. I see that in my version of zope 6.2.3 there is stop in the root directory but I can't figure out how to use it and what to tell it to stop. I am using zopes server not apache or another server. I tried the zopebook but didn't find it. If someone could tell me how to kill a running zope or at least point me to the documentation it would be most appreciated Thanks Aaron

without knowing on which system you are running zope, it is difficult to give you the exact solution on linux it is usually 'zopectl stop', on windows you can do it from the controller (the app that comes with the plone installer), from os x it is usually '/Applications/Plone2/Tools/stop Default (or an other instance's name)' hth

on linux it is usually 'zopectl stop',
Yes Linux sorry. I am using Zope-2.6.3-linux2-x86 and I gather I need to find zopectl. In the root of Zope is start and stop but zopectl isn't to be found. Is zopectl the process? Also how do I check what is running? What is happening is I try starting Zope and I get an error that it can't start on the default port because zope is already running there. I can start zope with the -w -f switches but I would like more control over whats happening. Also I access the remote host through ssh. When I run Zope I tie up the ssh command line, I can run it with ./start & but won't Zope die when I log out of ssh? Thanks Aaron

zopectl use to be in your zope instance directory. /zope-instance-directory/bin/zopectl
What is happening is I try starting Zope and I get an error that it can't start on the default port because zope is already running there.
try to do ps-ef|grep python and you'll see the process: /usr/bin/python /directory-software-zope/lib/python/Zope/Startup/run.py ... if you can stop the process you could kill it ... killall python or kill -9 process
I can start zope with the -w -f switches but I would like more control over whats happening.

If you don't find zopectl, you could start zope with ./start &, but I recommend you using zopectl
Thanks Aaron

Hi again well, I am it seems at a disadvantage not having root access. bash-2.05b$ cd ../ -bash-2.05b$ find -name zopectl -bash-2.05b$ ps-ef|grep python -bash: ps-ef: command not found -bash-2.05b$ killall python but killall python did the trick. maybe zopectl is only in the 2.7.0 release? will ./start & keep the server running after I exit ssh? That's correct.

The debian package for zope 2.6.X also includes a zopectl tool that is very useful for creating new instances as well as starting/stoping existing ones
will ./start & keep the server running after I exit ssh?
man nohup

Wow this is getting neat. But of course I forgot my password so I need to change it. I run the zpasswd.py script but I can't use the new password I enter. I asked before about when to run the script with the server stopped or running. I also am not sure if I put in --domains=localhost or my site address Thanks Aaron

If you does not have enabled debug mode, zope doesnot dies. But if you have for example pound proxy before, you need to run pound with nohup. Regards, -- Jaroslav Lukeš -- Tento e-mail nemůže obsahovat VIRY jelikož nepocházi z virózního systému M$ Windows!
Thanks I see that it does keep running. Another question is when do I change my password when the server is running or stopped? Also how do I know where to store the new password info? Thanks On Fri, 2004-04-23 at 12:37, Jaroslav Lukesh wrote:

You have to change it with de ZMI. http://yourzopehost:8080/manage find acl_users and change your password. Your server must be running El vie, 23-04-2004 a las 11:44, Aaron escribió:
