Problems with Mozilla-0.9.3
Hi there, Mozilla (0.9.3) seems to behave strangely with zope. Every, let's say, 50 operations (clicks on links, forms, ...) it just hangs and never finishes loading the page. Sometimes it doesn't load the small icons. the behavious don't seem to be triggered by some specific event, it just happens from time to time (it probably happened 50 times today! I had to go back to Netscape 4.x!). And when it happens I have to close the browser. Other than that Mozilla runs without problems on all the websites I've seen, it's a great browser and never crashed on me. Is it possible that the ZServer is sending some strange header or something? Zope too runs with no problems and renders ok on Netscape 4.x I'm running Linux Red Hat 7.1 I'm I the only one who's noticed this? Bye |G|

Hi there, I haven't noticed this particular problem. Have you tried a recent nightly build? That's a good way to find out if something is a bug with the browser or not. I have been using 0.9.3 with Zope since some weeks now. The Windows version behaves very fine and stable. But the Linux version still seems to have some problems on the HTTP level and HTTP authentication. However I had no time yet to track this down. i was having problems as well, playing with the cache setting to turn off all caching helped out (not just turn off but setting sizes to 0) cheers kapil

Same problem with some Zope pages that have lots og GIFs (Mozilla 0.9.3/Win2K). Those pages work perfectly when rendered with IE5 or Linux/KDE Konqueror. And I got no problem to view non Zope pages with lots of Gifs using the same Mozilla !!! --Gilles ----- Original Message ----- From: <aaa@simplesky.com> To: <zope@zope.org> Sent: Friday, September 07, 2001 2:08 PM Subject: [Zope] Problems with Mozilla-0.9.3

FYI: Mozilla 0.9.4 is still not usable for ZMI. It works fine for a few pages, but after a random number of ZMI operations Mozilla starts to show rendered page instead of Edit view... Mozilla should be fine for using sites developed in Zope, but not for programming them. Konqueror does not suffer from this problem. However, for those unfortunate souls that have alphabets with differing Windows and Linux encoding standards (ISO 8859-2 and Win-1250 for Czech), Konqueror mangles pages originally written in the Windows encoding... Mozilla does not do that. Today and in near future MS Internet Explorer is going to remain the best browser for ZMI... I wish that the Zope fat client was coming along soon... Did you look at Boa Constructor and its Zope support? Its all there since May already. It is really cool too! I think the Boa Constructor is much more suitable for development than a simple fay client. I have the power to write Zope Python code and ZMI-based code at the same time with the same tool and even have Shane's ZDebugger support. I recently did a review of Python IDEs and PythonWorks (which does not support Zope) and Boa Constructor are the best Python IDEs out there right now. I just got the latest CVS version (since Riaan does not update his distributions too often) from http://sourceforge.net/projects/boa-constructor. It is really sweet!!! I did look at it a couple weeks ago. But I won't commit myself to anything that is at version 0.1, and requires me to do CVS checkout. I'm happy trying tar.gz or .rpm releases and I do report bugs dilligently, but not at version 0.1. That's not saying that it is wrong to do that. It's just not my cup of tea :-) -- Milos Prudek

The version 0.1 thing does not mean it is that unstable. In terms of MS software, I'd call Boa at least a late Beta. And CVS is a really cool thing in my opinion. Just type "cvs update" and you have the latest version. That's much easier than downloading and installing an rpm ... Joachim
