In the Jargon File, one name for '#' is 'splat', which is similiar to 'squish'. (http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/jargon/html/entry/ASCII.html) So, #. is one possibility. *. is another, notionally because an asterisk may resemble a squished bug. Or, change the name to BangDot and use !. as the short form. -- A.M.
