We are having a webdav + ms word problem as well and are also looking for a work around (this is a key feature... almost everyone that I know uses word). We are using Zope 2.4.1 on Solaris and Windows Web Folders (webdav) function on Win NT. It seems to work for word .doc files but not for .html or .htm files Word opens the file read only. I can't reproduce the problem at this time because my Window ME refuses to work with any other webdav servers. The problem with 'index_html' is that Office 2K tries to acquire a lock for 'index_html.' (yes, index_html plus a dot) and then it seems to be confused about the answers it gets from Zope.

I love Zope but this is annoying me: I install the basic zope 2.4.1 ->

Zope-2.4.1-linux2-x86.tgz, run install and run start. I open index_html (in the root dir) in MSWord (as the initial user - admin) it says read-only. Am I doing something silly? Has anyone else experienced this?

MS Word (tested with Office 2K) should work with Zope 2.4.X. We made some workarounds in Zope to support Office 2K. The problem is that the Webdav implementation of Office 2K is worse. One general rule when working with Office 2K and Zope: avoid filenames that don't contain a dot (use index.html instead of index_html). Sorry, but blame Microsoft for their s*cking software.

What is the current status with the problem whereby one can't edit
existing
zope 'files' in MS Word? IE they come up as read-only. I read somewhere that this is related the level of webdav locking that Office 2000 expects. (is this true).
I am using zope 2.3.3, but a first glance at zope 2.4.1 and the problem doesn't seem to have gone away.
Does anybody know what I should do to get around this? Did any of you guys who posted about this before ever get any satisfactory workarounds?

It is hard to figure out how a workaround should look like. In detail: The readonly-problem occurs when Word tries to save a file. It first sends a PROPFIND for the current folder and tries to retrieve all properties. Zope answers with a spec-compliant multi-status reply. Zope send for all objects in the current folder a similar reply. There is no visible difference between .doc and .html/.htm files. During sending the PROPFIND command Word requests to send the values for uncommon properties like isreadonly, ishidden etc. Zope responds according to RFC 2581 with an HTTP 404 code for these unknown properties. So there is strong evidence that Word is unable to handle the response in a correct way. I agree that working with Word and Zope might be annoying but the problem is really not on the Zope side. If anyone has an idea or any informations how to get around the problem, let me know.
