ZMI very slow on Win 2000 server
Hi, I'm running the binary release of Zope 2.6.1 (python 2.1.3) and Plone 1.4 on a Windows 2000 sp4 server on the local network. Recently, I've noticed that the ZMI has slowed almost to a crawl while viewing the contents of most folders (empty ones open quickly). I can't think of anything that has been changed recently in our config. Things I've tried: clearing the cache, compacting the database, restarting the server. I'm just getting started with Zope, so I would appreciate some pointers on other troubleshooting things I can try. Thanks, Michael
Are there lots of items in these folders? Do you notice it most when you first start up, but it seems happens less once the system has been in use for some time? If both answers are yes, you might consider some site rearrangement or use a BTreeFolder instead of a normal folder (normal folders don't scale very well to holding lots of items). No, it's not an issue of quantity. No folder has more than about 10 items (most only have 3-5), and the folder hierarchy is only about 4 levels deep. Michael

Check that you don't have any screensavers running on your server. Some time ago i've seen the messages that running OpenGL screensaver (flying text or pipes or so) causes significant performance degradation of Interbase rdbms, because it (screensaver) consumes more than 90% of cpu cycles.
