Zope problems with IE5
Lots of people seem to have recently reported a problem with IE5 and the ZMI, where whatever you click on in the lefthand frame, it gives you the "View" version of the object in the righthand frame. Well I'd never had that problem, but today I did, so here's what caused it... might be unique to me, but might be what has caused the problem for a few people? Check under Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab - mine usually has "Never dial a connection" selected. For some reason IE had gone and set itself to "Always dial my default connection"! once I set it back to "Never dial..." the ZMI worked fine again! It could be that when people have been told to update IE, it has reset this option, and that's why updating has worked?? Hope that helps someone! :-) Cheers, Jon
I have this problem on the server actually running Zope. As long as I access the manage area from other than the server all is fine. I have been having this problem since 2.3.X. It hasn't bothered me because the servers are not workstations too. Now I do have Zope installed on my workstation and I don't have this problem at all. As for the dial-up Idea glad that worked for you. I checked the server settings to see if I could duplicate your fix. Unfortunately I cannot as it was set to never dial. Cut and Paste doesn't work, but I think this is known?
Have you tried fiddling with the "LAN settings" option (at the bottom of the Connections tab)? Maybe set it to use a Proxy Server, but bypass it for local addresses? Can you tell I'm grasping at straws here?? ;-) Maybe someone with more knowledge can give better advice, but I remember from my days of setting up intranets that any IE connection problems could often be cured by "randomly changing those settings till it works!" :-) HTH, but I suspect it doesnt!
