Wait. In a few short months Linux should handle large files natively.
Simpler current solution: Run on a 64bit system, say Linux/Alpha. You'll get large files for free there. -- J C Lawrence Home: claw@kanga.nu ----------(*) Other: coder@kanga.nu --=| A man is as sane as he is dangerous to his environment |=--

Even simpler than buying new hardware, switch to a system like NetBSD or FreeBSD that has supported large files for years and years :-)

Ty, I considered this, and looked into Net/Free/OpenBSD, but I was under the impression that using Zope on any of them was a bit 'o the pain in the ass. Plus, I couldn't find any info on other possible hardware related issues, like using >32GB IDE drives, which even my BIOS refuses to talk to. (if someone could give me the slightest hint as to *why* things would crap out at 4GB, I'd be greatful.) -- ethan mindlace fremen - mindlace@imeme.net good design is as close as I want to get to ideology.
4GB is the largest an unsigned 32 bit integer can be. ----- Original Message ----- From: ethan mindlace fremen <mindlace@imeme.net> To: Ty Sarna <tsarna@endicor.com> Cc: <zope@zope.org> Sent: Sunday, March 05, 2000 12:04 AM Subject: Re: [Zope] FYI: large files & linux. Ty Sarna wrote:

erp, sorry, hardware decision has already been made. I wouldn't be in a financial position to buy that hardware anyway. I'll look at it later, though. -- ethan mindlace fremen - mindlace@imeme.net good design is as close as I want to get to ideology.

FreeBSD on intel architecture doesn't have the large file limit of Linux. -- Totally Holistic Enterprises Internet| P:+61 7 3870 0066 | Andrew Milton The Internet (Aust) Pty Ltd | F:+61 7 3870 4477 | ACN: 082 081 472 | M:+61 416 022 411 | Carpe Daemon PO Box 837 Indooroopilly QLD 4068 |akm@theinternet.com.au|
