RE: [Zope] Do you Want to Save Money on Toner Cartridges?
It would seem to me that "zope@zope.org" has made it onto one of those CDROM's with "guaranteed 1 million valid email accounts to boost your business". We had an account that was being inundated by spam/junk mail, and I found out from someone who had bought the CD, when I queried them (an academic doing research, who was most helpful). Our only solution was to delete our email account... (fortunately we could). cheers Graham PS. I have written to one of these previous posters to zope@, suggesting that spamming a newsgroup full of tech-heads is not a good idea, and might cause some nasty backlash. -----Original Message----- From: felipodelacasa@latinmail.com [mailto:felipodelacasa@latinmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, 23 January 2002 5:29 To: zope@zope.org Subject: [Zope] Do you Want to Save Money on Toner Cartridges?

You think they care? All they'll do is add your address to their next list, and that's assuming the address you replied to even existed, which it probably didn't ;-) cheers, Chris PS: Martijn: when's the next Mailman release out so we can loose this crap?

Bad, bad idea! Its the quickest way to get your own address on such a CD-ROM; you have just confirmed your own address exists and is read by a human being. The one and only backlash that works is complaining to their ISPs. http://spamcop.net/ will help you generate complaints. If their ISPs don't listen (there are ISPs that don't), their upstream connectivety providers will get the complaints. Eventually some abuse department somewhere gets pissed off enough to disconnect the spammer, their ISP with them if they have to. -- Martijn Pieters | Software Engineer mailto:mj@zope.com | Zope Corporation http://www.zope.com/ | Creators of Zope http://www.zope.org/ ---------------------------------------------
