zope logo/webpage design contest
I think we should have a zope logo/webpage design contest. Any graphic artists out there? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Auctions - buy the things you want at great prices http://auctions.yahoo.com/

Regaring the webpage: How about usability experts, as well ? (A graphics artist doesn't warrant for a decent webpage) Gregor

Though i am no expert, I have read Designing Web Usability and Don't Make Me Think and it has informed the site design I am proposing. -- ethan mindlace fremen zopatista community liason
Hi Ethan! Blame me for not having contributed to the fishbowl proposal so far. We have a more-or-less complete concept for zope.org or eurozope.org next generation on paper (yes, on paper, not as files ...)) and no time to feed it into the design process. I promise to give our input ASAP ...

I just want to emphasize the "usability" thing again, using an example: If you currently go to the site and want to download a product, it's hard to get the right thing quickly. What we have in mind: - there should be a combined software download/project home section like in sourceforge, with dedicated portals for each new project - there should be different "views" onto that, so that I can see only products that work for Zope 2.3.x, or all devel projects I am member of etc. - comments about products, bugfixes, bug tracking etc. should all be centralized at the project home; right now most of the how-tos, comments, and hints go to the zope.org mailing list, bugfixes (if you are lucky) go to the maintainer who may or may not post them ... very chaotic Cheers Joachim

Nothing against graphic artists, but what purpose would a site graphic design overhaul serve? What _is_ it that we go to zope.org for? Pretty pictures and flashy graphics? I think not. Zope.org exists primarily to serve the community with tools and information. A graphic artist is, as I've argued before _not_ going to improve the goal of more/better tools/docs on the site. Do we want flash or substance? I really think this is an important question since resources need to remain focused on supporting and building the community. cheers, -- charlie blanchard http://baldguru.com/ LosAngeles area Zope Users Group http://lazug.org

hmm... we're already working on a redesign... see http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Projects/ZopeOrgCollaborationEnhancement/ MockUp -- ethan mindlace fremen zopatista community liason
Looks good. Zope is about content, presentation, and function. Zope.org is a gathering place for developers, content managers, and designers. (Zope.dev is all about/for developers, CMF is all about/for content management. I don't see such re-design need for these sites.) I think Zope dot org should present an evolving project.

The MockUp design images look heavy on images. Surely you must remember what is said in those books. Go for purity! and well coded CSS. zope.org isn't the kind of site where you want an impression. At digicool.com you might want to have that. Zope.org *is* where you want an impression. It - not the DigiCool site - is the first place many people will look, including newbies, decision makers etc. The mockup can be created with very few images, you'll need just the zope logo, the rounded corners of the tabs and a few buttons as images, the rest can be done using CSS.
