Community chat follow-up: Zope.org volunteering
Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the zope community IRC chat this week, but I read the transcript here: http://www.zopezen.org/Members/zopista/News_Item.2004-04-13.3929 I wanted to comment on one issue: <ChrisW> what happened to: <ChrisW> http://www.zope.org/About/ <ZCBrian> ChrisW: I'm __really__ anxious to get traction on that... <ZCBrian> ...but so far I haven't heard from anyone ;( <ZCBrian> Getting the process to work is the key to everything else Brian, you've hit the nail on the head with that last comment. To clarify - you "haven't heard from anyone" - do you mean you haven't heard from working group leaders, or you haven't heard from volunteers? If the latter, please note that to me, it is still not at all clear *how* to volunteer. I read http://www.zope.org/About with interest when it was announced several months ago. I noticed that the "Online click-through" agreement mentioned for content reviewers & site managers does not seem to exist (or if it does, I could not find it). I suppose one could email the working group leaders and ask about this, but their email addresses are not given. I checked again today, and that's still how things look. So, from my vantage point it looks like you're still getting the process worked out and aren't really ready to handle volunteers yet. Am I wrong? Please don't take this message as griping, I know you guys don't have a lot of time to spend on these issues, and I appreciate your efforts. P.S. On http://www.zope.org/About there are several mentions of a zweb@zope.org mailing list. http://www.zope.org/Resources/MailingLists does not mention a zweb list. Should that be zope-web@zope.org ? -- Paul Winkler http://www.slinkp.com

Brian, you've hit the nail on the head with that last comment.

We've not heard from anyone new about volunteering, or even with questions regarding what was posted until now. The points you bring up below are a good start though - maybe clarifying some of these things will improve the response rate ;)
If the latter, please note that to me, it is still not at all clear *how* to volunteer. I read http://www.zope.org/About with interest when it was announced several months ago. It's not there yet, though we've set up a call with Michael (the zope.org webmaster) to plan getting that rolled out. In the meantime, anyone in a hurry to volunteer can email me directly and I'll make sure that the click-through rollout doesn't block progress in the meantime.
I checked again today, and that's still how things look. So, from my vantage point it looks like you're still getting the process worked out and aren't really ready to handle volunteers yet. Am I wrong?
You are correct that we are still working out the process, but the only way to finish working it out is to get some volunteers and start doing it ;) We most definitely do want people to start getting involved.

Yes - fixed. Thanks! Brian Lloyd brian@zope.com V.P. Engineering 540.361.1716 Zope Corporation http://www.zope.com
