You have to let the users decide what is easy to find and what's hidden. If people aren't finding the archives, then they must not be located properly. It is actually rather simple, and intuitive.
From the main page, click Mailing Lists From there click on the searchable archive list of your choice.
They are located as properly and logically as they can be, devoid of the front page being a list of lonks to everything zope related.
