And I tracked it down and fixed it... and it was my own fault!

I applied Dan's patch by hand, as I wanted to read carefuly through the
changes.

However, I forgot a vital "import types" statement :-/



On the plus side, I now know a *lot* more about how authentication and
roles work under the hood :-)
