[Zope-PTK] Subportals? meta catalog?

We are starting out a project to deploy zope and CMF here as
the intranet for a diverse group of organizations.  The organization
is actually a group of companies, each with it's own departments.
The structure that would seem to work the best would be the idea
of a sub-portal.  One thing we want to be able to do is selectively
filter things like news items upward to a company-wide intranet view.
One possiblilty that I haven't tried is putting a portal within a portal,
then making explicit calls on the catalog tool of the sub portal.
If this works, then the top level catalog could be a wrapper for the
sub catalogs.

Any suggestions for this?  As I see it, the CMF would benifit from
some of the same concepts of hierarchy offered by zope itself.
