Hmm... sounds like dynamic drill down reports. Look at ZDataQueryKit -
http://www.zope.org/Members/haqa/ZDataQueryKit .

The docs are a little thin on the ground, but this should do what you
describe.

I am currently working the bugs out of a new release, and also I have a CMF
version I was working on as an experiment.
