[Zope-CMF] Effective/expiration date and workflow

Naive question about the interaction between effective_date,
expiration_date, and workflow: namely, is there any?  IOW, do there
exist workflow classes that check {effective,expiration}_date when
deciding whether an object should be visible?  If not, then what is the
point of {effective,expiration}_date -- are they just there because
Dublin Core says they should be there?
