[Zope-CMF] Problem searching PDFs with TextIndexNG and CMFExternalFile

I have setup PDF searching on CMF/Plone.  PDF files added with the "File"
object are searchable but "CMFExternalFile" objects (PDF) added for some
reason are not searchable.  Anybody have an idea why?  Could it be security,
or product limitations, or ??

I am running...
CMFExternalFile 0.5
zope 2.6.1
pdftotext (latest windows version)
TextIndexNG2 (2.0.1)
Plone 1.0.3
