Likely so.  You should be able to modify the 'subject' metadata field 
cleanly using the 'metadata_form' skin method, e.g.:

   http://example.com/CMFSite/path/to/event/metadata_form

I don't know why that action isn't surfaced in your site (perhaps you 
removed it?)
