chris,
a few observations:
- the branch name is actually chrism-install-branch ;)
- there is some places where you might need to quote path names because
they might contain spaces. here is an error i got running "make" on OS
X:
----------------
setting dir permissions
chmod: /tmp/Zope/lib/python/build/temp.darwin-6.0-Power: No such file
or directory
chmod: Macintosh-2.1: No such file or directory
-----------------
in this case the directory path was...
"/tmp/Zope/lib/python/build/temp.darwin-6.0-Power Macintosh-2.1"
- not having read any documentation i was puzzled that "make install"
was not the last step, as is customary. the choice of running "make
instance" and not "make install" might also confuse people a little.
- all steps from ./configure through make, make install and
makeinstance worked fine on OS X, with the exception of the error
because of unquoted path names as shown above during make.
- the new zctl is very nice. i like the ability to run it as a little
shell and i can view all configuration details. however, using "set"
always fails with the following traceback::
------------------
zopectl> set ftp_server_ports 8821
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./zctl", line 139, in ?
_ZopeCtlCmd().main()
File "./zctl", line 135, in main

File "/tmp/Zope/lib/python/Controller/ZopeCtl.py", line 116, in set
self.config.setDirective(arg, name, value)
NameError: global name 'name' is not defined
---------------------
- calling ./zctl start seems to expose a bug in zope itself::
-------------------
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/tmp/zopetarget/z2.py", line 524, in ?
import ZServer
File "/tmp/Zope/ZServer/__init__.py", line 36, in ?

File "/tmp/Zope/lib/python/App/FindHomes.py", line 34, in ?
home=realpath(home)
File "/tmp/Zope/lib/python/App/Common.py", line 150, in realpath
p = realpath(p)
<<<<repeated about 1000 times>>>>
File "/tmp/Zope/lib/python/App/Common.py", line 144, in realpath
if os.path.islink(head_s):
File "/usr/local/lib/python2.1/posixpath.py", line 162, in islink
return stat.S_ISLNK(st[stat.ST_MODE])
File "/usr/local/lib/python2.1/stat.py", line 61, in S_ISLNK
return S_IFMT(mode) == S_IFLNK
RuntimeError: maximum recursion depth exceeded
--------------------
the location where i had this set up was /tmp/zopeinstance. /tmp is
actually a symbolic link pointing to /private/tmp.
