[Zope] Database choice

As for PostgreSQL I can't say, but Sybase on Linux is quite good.
Specifics: It lacks the wonderful management tools, great query
optimizer, and automatic memory/disk tuning features of MSSQL 7.0, but
beyond that it's very functional. Fast? That depends. But given that
Sybase 11.3 for Linux is free and if you know Transact SQL well, and
you're able to configure your databases through its ISQL interface, it's
excellent value for money. But let's just say that if Zope had supported
DB2 (which also has a free Linux version) I'd probably have switched
right away.
The problem with Sybase right now is Zope support. Brian Hooper's DA has
a number of bugs and quirks (which I've reported to him), and Digital
Creation's DA has even more bugs (which I've also reported). I went back
to Brian's DA after testing the DC DA, as Brian's bugs proved more
endurable. Right now I can't recommend the DC DA as it is too buggy for
even a testing environment, unless you're a very casual user.
(I have patched Brian's Python code to fix some odd quirks, I can send
the the fixes on request to anyone who wants them.)
