The python 2.1.3 source rpm from python.org states in the changelog section 
of the spec....

"* Wed Aug 20 2001 Sean Reifschneider <jafo-rpms@tummy.com>
[Release 2.1.1-2]
- Adding LFS support."

So the other answer would be... rpmbuild --rebuild the python .src.rpm on 
RedHat :-)
