[Zope] Apache .htaccess and zope [Solved]

Ah, thank you for your input Matt, which made me look deeper into the 
Plone way of creating a private site.

Like you say, .htaccess is not the right way to approach this, for 
the reasons your describe.  Neither is the Zope way of setting 
security permissions on a folder for a particular user or Role.

The Plone way, which works is described here:

I have found this howto to be error free for Plone 2.0
