If you use PostgreSQL, I recommend the ZPsycopgDA database adapter.  And 
for goodness sakes, be sure to tune PostgreSQL.  The default settings 
are perfect for a 486 with 16MB of RAM.  Many of us have access to a bit 
more power.  I've gotten a 5 to 10-fold increase in performance with 
proper tuning.
