Background
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is
the focus of the political process to address Climate Change. The
Convention secretariat supports the Convention and its Kyoto Protocol by a
range of activities, including substantive and organizational support to
meetings of the Parties.The Information Technology Services programme is a
central service provider for information and communication technology
infrastructure and user support services, as well as for information
systems development, maintenance and application support within the UNFCCC.
Functions to be performed
Under general supervision of the Manager, ISD Subprogramme (P5, ITS) and
direct supervision of the Information Systems Officer (ITS/ISD) the
incumbent will contribute to the end-to-end development and maintenance of
new and existing UNFCCC information systems. In particular, the Software
Developer shall:
· Analyze existing system structure and design;
· Design software solutions for agreed requirements, and in accordance
with documented architectures;
· Code, unit test and system test the assigned tasks according to the
above-mentioned specification;
· Track own work in tracking software, report regularly on progress and
receive advice and guidance;
· Document design and implementation, participate in internal technical
workshops and code reviews;
· Prepare technical documentation for deployed computer application
systems;
· Perform all work in accordance with priorities, processes, quality
standards, code style guides and tooling agreed with the Information
Systems Officer;
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Outputs:
The Software Developer shell deliver the following list of products for
Capacity Building Portal and Finance Portal projects:
· Data relationship definitions;
· Data migration scripts;
· On page content editor;
· Search engine;
· Publication workflow;
· User management interface;
· Submission forms.
Requirements:
· First level university degree in computer science, information
systems, mathematics or statistics;
· At least three years of professional experience in the planning,
design, development, implementation and maintenance of computer
information systems and related areas;
· Solid knowledge of RDBMS, in particular MySQL;
· Excellent knowledge of ORM, knowledge of SQLAlchemy a major asset;
· Solid knowledge of Python, knowledge and experience working with
Zope 2 an asset;
· Solid knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery and JQuery UI with
particular focus on creation of AJAX-driven user interface;
· Knowledge of test driven development is an asset;
· Understanding of application layer, separation of code, data and
presentation;
· Ability to produce clean and maintainable code;
· Fluent written and spoken English, knowledge of other UN languages is
plus.
