Out of curriosity, why does that matter?  Even in preformated blocks
the above is functionaly equivilent to the same markup all on one line.
I guess I could understand why it would be a problem if you were
returning something other than text/html, but I'm betting TAL isn't
gonna be a good candidate for much of anything that has strict
whitespace requirements.
