That's right. There really is no canonical database abstraction layer for Python relational database adapters that I've seen. I think the best you can do is either code to the lowest-common-denominator SQL dialect (probably impossible) or code for as many databases as you need. I'm looking for a DAL to use with Python but can't find any. There seems to be adapters for a range of sql servers, but not one which unifies the interfaces; sql syntax varies with each server (fx LIMIT and TOP).
