- Installation problem

I downloaded Zope and followed the INSTALL.txt directions. Thanks! Yes, it would be a really good system for doing that. We build one over at: http://www.digicool.com/site/Collector/ based on our Tabula product that runs in Zope. The biggest problem we had in doing the Collector was requirements. We never had the discipline to write down what we wanted it to do! Thus, I think the first requirement for "Zitterbug" would be to focus on the early part of the software lifecycle. --Paul

I'm unfamiliar with Zope. Would it be an adequate tool to build an internet based bug tracking system: a clone of jitterbug (see http://samba.anu.edu.au/jitterbug/ or http://www.gnome.org/cgi-bin/bugs )Would such a project be meaured in days, weeks, or months? These were always "exceptions". When you click on the shutdown button, the application calls sys.exit, which raises a SystemExit. This has always been the case, but you didn't notice because tracebacks were in HTML comments. Similarly, authorization failures are triggered by raising "Unauthorized". Your PCGI info file probably has: BOBO_DEBUG_MODE=1 which turns on a number of debugging features, including the non-hiding of tracebacks. It doesn't know that they're the same object, since they're differently-named. The __str__ method on images really needs to figure out the true absolute path of the object and use that. (like <IMG SRC="/site/logo">) ... Speaking of things that need to be done about Image objects, the fact that they don't send a size can be annoying to users of a site. When the image tag includes a width and height, the browser can lay out the page without waiting to see how large the image is. I had trouble falling asleep last night, so I got up and thought I'd take a look at how hard it'd be to implement. Shortly thereafter, I had the patches below. :^) Image now autodetects the dimensions of uploaded GIF or PNG images (JPEG is harder and I use many more GIFs than JPEGs, so I punted on that. Someone else can add it if they feel ambitious). For pre-existing objects, you can make the object compute (or recompute) the dimensions by going into the Edit tab, clearing the dimension inputs, and submitting. You can also manually set the dimensions to something else if you like, though this is not generally recommended as a way to scale images. If Image is unable to figure out the dimensions (JPEG, or some other unknown format), the width and heigh remain unset and the IMG tag is generated without them. This is essentially correct. Note that to use the C extensions, you also need ExtensionClass on which they are based. Also, the Zope BoboPOS has an additional module, TJar that implements long-running transactions, which are the basis of Zope sessions. (Don't look too closely at this. It, like the rest of BoboPOS 2, is pretty crufty. Yes, but if you want the optional C speedups, you need to make sure and include the compiled extension (.so file on Linux, .pyd file on Win32) *and* you need to make sure that the ExtensionClass extension is somewhere in the path.
