passing REQUEST.form to frames

What is the correct syntax for passing form data to child frames of a frameset ? I would like to pass form fields that is submitted to frameset to child frames. Is there any alternative built-in syntax to using an ugly construct like this : =& ------------------ Hannu

2b6/zserver/redhat linux - python process seems to be growing ?

I have a ZODB about 5.4 mb and what appears to be a normal healthy zope 2b6 except that whenever I check, the size of the python processes (as revealed by top) seems to be expanding steadily. It starts out around 7.54mB and is currently 34.5mB or so... Anyone else noticed this or is it just me ? Flushing the cache seems to make no difference. At what point should I start wondering about memory leaks ?

This may be heresy to some folk, but you're probably better off doing this client side, if you are able. The Javascript in Version 4.x and above Netscape (and IE too, I think) has a regular expression engine built in. Automatic paragraph numbering and outline styles

ZODB transaction ?!

Hi! I'm trying to create a folder and put some images in it. My DTML looks somewhat like this:     My problem is that, sometimes the above works but mostly it doesn't :-), and I get something like this: -- Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: commit_sub [...] Traceback (innermost last): File /root/Zope-2.0.0b5-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 209, in publish_module File /root/Zope-2.0.0b5-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 179, in publish File /root/Zope-2.0.0b5-linux2-x86/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 199, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: ElementWithAttributes) File /root/Zope-2.0.0b5-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 169, in publish File /root/Zope-2.0.0b5-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZODB/Transaction.py, line 247, in commit AttributeError: (see above) -- I assume I'm getting this because the transaction with the ZODB for _addFolder does not get (correctly) commit()-ed and the folder object is not yet there when I try to add the immages. This happens with current b5 version and b1 as well... zope hangs after "a while"

http://news.gnome.org/gnome-news/ - the GNOME News site is up and running, thanks to help from list members. The only remaining obstacle between the site and a good slashdotting is the fact that after a period of operation, the server hangs (the same symptoms as when I overloaded 2.0.0b4 with requests). This period can be as short as 20-30 minutes, and I think averages around an hour. The site has received 20k page hits over the past 23.5 hours (I've got a script that restarts it every hour). I know this is very vague - if I can provide any specifics, please say so. -- Elliot The time for action is past! Now is the time for senseless bickering!

XML-RPC, self and security

I discovered a potential problem with ZPublisher, External Methods and Zope XML-RPC. Let's say you write an external method in Python, and you want to call it via XML-RPC. To make life more interesting, pretend you need access to 'self'. If you call an external method from ZPublisher (instead of calling it from DTML), you can't specify 'self' as your first parameter. Instead, you must specify it as your last parameter. Unfortunately, the user can pass a bogus 'self' parameter to your Python method, and possibly subvert any security checks you've provided (many such checks rely on 'self' in some fashion). Short Term Workaround --------------------- Access an attribute on self. Since no XML-RPC data types seem to support attributes, this should provide a small measure of security. def deliverNews(foo, self): # CAREFUL - Zope is sloppy about passing 'self' to external methods. # ZPublisher will only pass you a self argument if you leave an extra # parameter at the end of your parameter list and call it 'self'. # Unfortunately, a sneaky user could pass one extra parameter when # calling this function and give us a bogus value of self. To prevent # problems, we must double-check that self isn't some sort of XML-RPC # object. We can do that by accessing an attribute. REQUEST = self.REQUEST return foo Possible Fix? ------------- ZPublisher should probably work more like DTML rendering. In particular, it should check for a first parameter named 'self' and pass an appropriate object. Would this break something else in a complicated fashion? Cheers, Eric
