Discussions spill across several lists. A very good job is done of identifying DTML's weak points. Many hold that the difficulty in using DTML comes from it's roots as a reporting language-- it isn't supposed to be used for logic. The problem is, there isn't yet an easy replacement for DTML as a programming language. Python Methods are cited as an excellent start on providing a means of moving logic out of DTML. Christopher Petrilli mentions that DC is looking at grooming Python Methods for inclusion in Zope. Others feel that reporting vs. programming is a forced distinction, and that it is awkward to have to use two different solutions. The claim that generating HTML is actually a rather complex task, and the powerful but ugly features of DTML are a necessary evil. DTML is compared to Perl! <gasp!> Otherwise, lots of very useful tips for using DTML are revealed. What is the correct syntax for passing form data to child frames of a frameset ? I would like to pass form fields that is submitted to frameset to child frames. Is there any alternative built-in syntax to using an ugly construct like this : =& ------------------ Hannu

regex question

I have never been much of a regex master, and I am having difficulty constructing one that should be fairly simple. I want to find all the text that is between <body> and </body> in a variable that may (and probably will) contain newlines. I am removing case insensitive searches in the following examples in order to make the regex's simpler. To grab find the opening <body> tag, I have '<[\t ]*body[\t ]*.*>' which is almost correct, but not quite. This expression finds <bodystuff>, too, so I really need something that finds '<\t ]*body(\t ]+.*>)|(>)', but I can't find a construct that works. Basically, it needs at least one whitespace followed by stuff followed by '>', or else it needs no whitespace followed by '>' I can use similar code to find the </body> tag. However, putting those two together around a $\(.*\n*$*\), in order to match all the text between the <body> and </body> tags sends python into an infinite loop. It doesn't like it when I try to match an unlimited number of lines.before the </body> tag I could use two regsub.split calls to break the variable into its respective parts (assuming I can sort out the first problem), but regsub is written in python, while regex is written in c (or so I am told), so I would prefer to use regex. Please help. Generally, whenever I ask a mailing list for regex help, it always turns out to be somehing boneheaded that I am missing, so try not to laugh at me ;-) --sam

ZOracle - support for LOB [Q]

Hello. I am trying to fetch and insert LOB fields into Oracle8i... I have read the DCOracle.txt where it states that LOB are supported if fetchdone() is used. But are LOB supported using ZOracleDA? Has someone set up some Zope site using LOBs in Oracle8i? I need to store articles from our writers that are supposed to be superior to 4KB in size so VARCHAR2 is not enough and we do not want to store them in separate files because we want to have all inside our Oracle Database. Sorry to post so many questions in so many days, but we are getting closer to release date and I am trying to finish all our development. Tree Tag of PARENT object

Zopists, I have been trying like the dickens to get the tree tag of a PARENT object, to no avail. <dtml-with "PARENTS[1]"> <dtml-tree>... </dtml-with> And all the variations thereof, arent bringing my the tree from the PARENTS point of view. If I do a <dtml-var "PARENTS[1].my_tree"> of course I just get the html back, not the rendered tree tag. Any ideas? I am trying to get the tree tag of the PARENT object. htmllib question

I thought I had a pretty clean solution for extracting all the contents between the <body> </body> tags of an uploaded html file, using the htmllib. Basically, in start_body, I call save_bgn(), and in end_body, I call save_end(), which was supposed to save all the contents between the two tags. Unfortunately, it saves only the content that isn't in html tags. All the subsequent tags get dropped. Does anyone know an easy way around this? The only method that I see is to overload the unknown tag functions to pu tthe tags back into a buffer, which is WAY more effort than it is worth. --sam

Trouble calling external method from userAuthenticate in GUF

Hi, Here I am banging my head on the wall once again. Zope treats me so cruelly, it entices me with goodies but just when the plum is in my hand...it vanishes. I'm now trying to use GenericUserFolder to do a complex authentication procedure on a "members" page. I've wrapped GUF.userAuthenticate around an external method that resides in the acl_users folder, but Zope refuses to acknowledge the existence of the method. The GUF SQL How-To talks about using ZSQL methods, can I not use external methods inside the GUF hook functions?
