Import xml version of zclass broken ?

Why did I try this stupid trick ? I'm trying to figure out how to quickly "clone" a zclass - make changes to a working zclass to produce a variation zclass without all the tedium of creating the clone from scratch (sure, copying all the dtml etc but it's still tedious and error prone !). It occurred to me that I could use a text editor to change the various conflicting id's in the xml representation - if that works, I could write some code to do it automagically. Here's what I did. (zope 2.0.1 on an nt box at home) 1. Use export from the control panel in products to export a zclass as xml 2. cp the .xml from your var to import directories 3. Try importing it. 4. Of course I expect an import error because I'm stupidly trying to import objects like permissions and zclass names which already exist - so I expected various id conflicts - didn't seem to get that far. The error is in line 283 of ExportImport.py which reads pickler.dump(unpickler.load()) pickler.dump(unpickler.load()) (Yes, line 284 is a repeat of line 283 for some reason.) Anyone ? problems with install of zGold example site

I extracted the tarball in /var/zope, and then imported the file. Everything went ok. I restarted the server. When I tried to access the "copy_of_zGold" folder, I get this error message: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: __getitem__ I don't have the mysql database connector installed. I am going to change it to use the postgresql database. Changing generated url prefix for proxying... SERVER_URL?

Hi folks, Zope newbie here. Anyway, I'm starting to get Zope running on the python.org domain and I'm having a bit of a problem with the set up. I've actually installed Zope 2.0.1 on a second machine (not www.python.org, but called dinsdale.python.org) On dinsdale I'm using ZServer, and I've configured our primary Apache server to proxy to Zope on dinsdale using Apache's mod_proxy. This approach was outlined by Tom Neff in an article available here: http://x28.deja.com/getdoc.xp?AN=537412297&CONTEXT=941218408.1542586419&hit… Tom is using ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse to map Zope into the primary Apache space. Here are the specific directives I'm using: ProxyPass /Zope/ http://dinsdale.python.org:8080/ ProxyPassReverse /Zope/ http://dinsdale.python.org:8080/ Works great; if you visit http://www.python.org/Zope/ you'll see the welcome screen. http://www.python.org/Zope/manage gets you to the management screen, through the proxy. The problem is that all the URLs that Zope generates have a prefix http://dinsdale.python.org:8080/ so all subsequent links bypass the proxy on www.python.org. Not what I want. I found this article on zope.org: http://www.zope.org/Members/dparker/dynamichostnames Which seemed moderately related, so I tried setting the environment variable SERVER_URL to http://www.python.org/Zope/ in my shell before running the start script. Didn't seem to help. Has anybody else done this successfully? Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. -Barry

Generating unique keys

I need to generate unique ID's for objects I'll be creating from DTML. This of course needs to be thread safe. Although I can't do this out of the box from within DTML (that I know of), I could get thread safety using an external method, or a persistant object written in Python, and using locks provided by the Python thread module. I think a persistant object (lets call it ZSequence) would be best. However, all this falls down if we want the code to run under ZEO in the future. And using a SEQUENCE in my Oracle database might work for me, but I want avoid using my RDBMS if possible. Can I use the Transaction system? I don't want to do a full commit, as this would have unknow effects on whatever is referencing this object. Can I commit changes to a dirty object, without affecting the rest of the transaction? (I've looked at cPersistence.c, which did nothing but remind we why I havn't programmed in C for years :-) ) Any thoughts? Thanks. I downloaded it, and I am going to try to modify for the PygreSQL database. It would be great to create an area on the page with sample sites. so people can upload them to a common area. I saw your post in the Zope archive regarding the imort error with NotMail. I had the exact same error on a Linux box and managed to fix it by doing the following: In NotMail.py at line 199-200, change: def __init__(self, id, title='', default_domain, smpt_server, smtp_port, imap_server, imap_port, REQUEST=None): to: def __init__(self, id, title='', default_domain='', smpt_server='', smtp_port=25, imap_server='', imap_port=143, REQUEST=None): Although I am not yet certain whether or not this modification causes any adverse effects somewhere else (to the best of my knowledge it should not as long as everything is configured properly), it does fix the SyntaxError: non-default argument follows default argument (line 199) problem. However, I have discovered more problems when I try to access NotMail, but I have not yet looked at them. I also made a modification to Connection.py similar to the one referenced in http://www.zope.org/pipermail/zope/1999-October/011505.html (knotmail) for IMAPAdapter.py (if 'NotMail' not in roles).... Zope.org site text should wrap

Many pages on the zope.org site are annoying to read because they don't word-wrap. This is probably caused by a width="100%" attribute in the main <table> tag. On most pages with this problem, getting rid of the widh="100%" lets the text wrap like it should. Whoever is the template custodian, please let our text wrap! Thomas Passin
