I have encountered this myself. One method that the ZopeTime object has is toZone. So, I think you could do: <dtml-var "release.toZone(YourTimeZone).strftime('%d.%m.%Y, %H:%M')"> I don't know how this would compare to other solutions from an efficiency standpoint... Kevin

I don't know too much about the MS api stuff - but you're correct that there's no reason better UI couldn't be accomplished with both. Well, you certainly can't ignore if from the standpoint of making your Zope-created apps compatible with it. From the standpoint of making a better next-gen Zope management and app development interface though, IMHO browser marketshare or mindshare are not really that important. We have a cross-browser mgmt interface now. What we want to get to is to have something better and more powerful as an alternative. If using the more powerful interface requires using a particular tool (no matter what it turns out to be), then our sense is that that is a reasonable trade off. Realistically, the core goal is a better UI, so any decisions like that will have to be based on merit and compatibility with Zope's business and technical goals, not market share. Zope.org suggestion: Download shortcut on Product page

Just two minor suggestions regarding the Zope.org user experience: - On the Products page, the items should be sorted by date - It would be nice if there was a shortcut to directly download the distribution file, on the Products overview page as well as on the individual Software Product pages. Currently, if I see on the Products page that there's a new Squishdot version available, I have to load two intermediate pages to actually download it (Software Product page, Product Release page and finally Download). You could e.g. on the Software Product page, link the Version tag to the distribution file. Gregor

Basic public manage access questions

Hello Like most here I am very impressed with Zope - concept, community, scope, potential etc. and am specifying Zope for an upcoming maritime transport e-commerce project. Users & End-users (are there really ever such a group?) may be using our 'smart-map' web site from kjhkh-knows-what machine, fdsf-knows-where. I am concerned about how to prevent access to management screens when someone does not fully quit the web browser after a management session. Either I have missed something so basic about zope permissions, or it has missed my application.context. It seems that if I log-on as zope site manager/developer/contentprovider, and do some priviledged site work, but then walk away from the browser [ even though I have left it on another URL entirely], then the next person can step up to the machine, click 'back', use 'history', or type in www.mysite.com:8080/somefolder/manage - and bingo slide back into my shoes with those powers! ...oops! ouch.. Tell me I am wrong please. If this is true what does anyone recommend? Yes, I can give people beautifully written instructions: DO NOT do 'thisXYZABC'- please_Youvebeenwarned' .. but real-world conditions with people I may never meet, who don't speak English very well, or are using a Kiosk terminal etc are another matter. [not to mention speaking simple webese- or intermediate zope/python not too well] Is there some nice code {Javascipt/Zope} you can think of to check the fact once the browser focus has moved onto another page or something, then I am obliged to re-enter user:password information? Ditto what can I do when a user of the browser has selected the 'remember password' item? Is there a clean way to zope around this? How to join/add ZCatalog.searchResults?

Problem: I need to combine a search in two fields (title, data) with or. (standard is and, and since now there is no chance to change this, afaik?) A solution could be, to make two separate searches and join the searchResults, something like this: <dtml-let title_search="Catalog.searchResults({'title':mysearchfield})" data_search="Catalog.searchResults({'data':mysearchfield})" complete_search="title_search + data_search"> and then iterate over the concatenated list: <dtml-in complete_search size=20 start=query_start> Well, I'd love to try this, but "title_search + data_search" doesn't work. Error Type: TypeError Error Value: __add__ nor __radd__ defined for these operands Any idea how to concatenate those two searchResults? Thanks in advance, Michael gutmann(a)uni-duesseldorf.de

ZopeTime questions (DTML mainly)

Hello, I'm trying to figure out the ZopeTime object (or is it a method?) and how to use it. I've tried to render Finnish date and time, which is of format: dd.mm.yyyy, hh:mm:ss so for example: 15.10.1999m, 21:04:05 means 15th of October, 1999 at four past nine pm (and 5 seconds) Rendering this visible with <dtml-var ZopeTime fmt=...> seems straightforward enough (here, without seconds): <dtml-var release fmt="%d.%m.%Y, %H:%M"> but the problem is that %H (and %d, %m %Y too because of this?) are not from the current time zone (but from GMT?). This means that if I use the above code at 11 o'clock a.m. Finnish time, I get result that says time is 9 o'clock a.m. More than that, if I want a render the time of an object that had a release date (of Finnish time) at 01:59 am on the 1st of November 1999, the above code would show a release time of 11:59 pm 31st of October 1999 (?) However, if I use the format: <dtml-var ZopeTime fmt="h_24"> I get hours in 24-hour format in current time Zone (i.e. correct Finnish time). Rendering the time this way would require me to type: <dtml-var release fmt=day>.<dtml-var release fmt=month>.<dtml-var release fmt=year>, <dtml-var release fmt=h_24>:<dtml-var release fmt=%M> am I correct? It seems to work ok, although I haven't checked whether the "day" changes according to GMT or current time zone (if it changes according to GMT hours, then I'm in trouble. Same for "month" and "year"). However, a few of questions puzzle me: 1) Are day, month, year and h_24 synchronized whereas %d,%m,%Y,%H are synchronised differently? (i.e. one should not mix them in order to avoid funny date/times). 2) Why are the formats different? I couldnt find reason/documentation as to why one reports hours in current timezone and other in GMT. Or have I misunderstood something completelly? 3) Are the two options (using one dtml-var ZopeTime vs using multiple ones) equal in the load they put on Zope? I would assume that a simple dtml-var call would be less of a load, no? This may not sound like an important issue, but if the latter approach puts a five-fold increase on zope and I have to call that dtml method giving Finnish time, say 100 times on a page, well it might have an impact (?) 4) Can I somehow add the time zone difference to the time with simple add operation? i.e. can I use the <dtml-var release fmt="%d.%m.%Y, klo %H:%M"> format and somehow just tell that: "add +2 hours" to that time? I'm assuming there isn't an add operation for timestamp data types in dtml? If there is one, is it clever enough to understand that when hours are overflowed, it has to tick one more day and deduct appropriately from hours (the same for month and years of course)? How would I accomplish this (my apologies if a lot of my questions are about my inability to grok the syntax properly). 5) If I want to make a simple time comparison between release date property of an object and current time, how do I do it (e.g. if I only want to compare, say that the dates are same - not caring about years, months or hours and seconds). If my current object has a property release which has been set to ZopeTime at the time of creation: I've tried making an equality check between (i.e. the below pseudo code in gazillion variations): ZopeTime fmt=day = release fmt=day but "fmt" mucks up the syntax somehow (I don't know how to write the comparison when fmt=day is present). Without the fmt attribute: <dtml-if "ZopeTime=release"> worked fine (I think). So, how do I compare just parts (say days) of two timestamp properties? Do I need to create an external method? Future of Zope

As a new Zope user I am very very impressed by the amount of work that has gone into this software. I must confess though that I find DTML a little cumbersome to use, and debugging is very difficult (I have yet to find a solution to the problem I described in my "Problems with <dtml-tree>" thread). Is there any prospect of some form of friendlier developer GUI to Zope, perhaps a Java client. Features such as Syntax highlighting of DTML, and a better error description system, would greatly enhance the ease of use of Zope. Further, such a system would not need to replace the present HTML interface, but could be used optionally. I may be showing my newbieness here, but I guess a good first step might be a Java conduit to the Zope database - perhaps one already exists. I am not knocking the hard work that developers have put into the system, however I suspect these are the questions that many Zope newbies will be asking. Passing optional parameters to an Z SQL method.

I've got an Z SQL method that has the arguments locatestring:string and created_after, created_before, lastmod_after, lastmod_before. Now, in the SQL method, I've got the usual stuff; SELECT bleh.id bleh.title FROM bleh WHERE LOCATE(,bleh.title)  AND bleh.created >  AND bleh.created <  AND bleh.lastmod >  AND bleh.lastmod <   This works perfectly when I perform the query through the test interface, however, it chokes when I use it from a DTML document, saying it can't find the created_* and lastmod_* variables in REQUEST. Any alternative ways to perform this?
