He explains how volatile attributes work, and how to populate them when your object is loaded from the database. Discussions spill across several lists. A very good job is done of identifying DTML's weak points. Many hold that the difficulty in using DTML comes from it's roots as a reporting language-- it isn't supposed to be used for logic. The problem is, there isn't yet an easy replacement for DTML as a programming language. Python Methods are cited as an excellent start on providing a means of moving logic out of DTML. Christopher Petrilli mentions that DC is looking at grooming Python Methods for inclusion in Zope. Others feel that reporting vs. programming is a forced distinction, and that it is awkward to have to use two different solutions. The claim that generating HTML is actually a rather complex task, and the powerful but ugly features of DTML are a necessary evil. DTML is compared to Perl! <gasp!> Otherwise, lots of very useful tips for using DTML are revealed. Passwd doesn't take

I seem to have zope running on my Debian/Linux workstation as follows: 1 3502 3502 3502 ? -1 S 0 0:00 python /usr/sbin/zope-z2 3502 3503 3502 3502 ? -1 S 33 0:14 /usr/bin/python /usr/sbin/zope-z2 and I get prompted for the password when I give the following URI to netscape: http://localhost:8080/manage but I give my name and password (which I think is correct because after it failed the first time I changed it with:asp:/usr/lib/zope# ./zpasswd.py ~zopepasswdfile Username [superuser]: Xeno Password: Verify password: Please choose a format from: SHA - SHA-1 hashed password CRYPT - UNIX-style crypt password CLEARTEXT - no protection. Encoding [SHA]: Allowed domains [enter=all]: ...and after it rejected the password and I hit cancel, it said: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Unauthorized You are not authorized to access this resource. Troubleshooting Suggestions The URL may be incorrect. The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect. A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error. For more detailed information about the error, please refer to the HTML source for this page. If the error persists please contact the site maintainer. Thank you for your patience. And so I'm stuck. I think I have a valid install, as I went through all the standard dpkg -i install packages to get there, and the thing runs and stayed in memory for about a day now. I'm hoping this is a simple problem with the way I'm setting the password, or the way I'm specifying the URI to netscape. Can somebody make a suggestion or tell me where to read? Thanks.

how to capture a password

I have a zope powered site that uses basic authentication. In addition to the acl_users folder I have a database with user information, like name data and email address. Within this setup I want to give the user the opportunity to have his/her password sent by email in case (s)he has forgotten. How can I solve this problem within the current setup. I can't find a method that delivers a user's password and I fear it does not exist. Cornelis J. de Brabander

Submitting a patch for a DA?

Hi, Never thought I would get the privilege of doing this... As some of you may have seen, I have been requesting help for the PostgreSQL DA, I didn't get any help, so I finally figured out that maybe no one new the answer. I went digging through the DA and think I have solved my problem. Now I have a two part question: 1. How do I submit a patch (I've never done it before)? 2. To whom do I submit the patch? Session Management

Hi, I guess I don't understand session management, and need some help. I'm using the FSSession tool and have things configured like this: Root/ SubFolder1 SubFolder2 SubFolder3 FSSession index_html index_html initializes the FSSession object. The docs say I should just put it in my standard_html_header, but if it gets rexecuted I get an error message, so I put it in index_html using the following: <dtml-unless "_.has_key('FSSession')"> <dtml-call FSSession> </dtml-unless> This appears to work very nicely, as I make extensive use of it in SubFolder1. However, I found a need to display a form in SubFolder2 from SubFolder1 and use a session key that was set in SubFolder1. It didn't work, I couldn't figure out why until I printed the FSSession object while using the SubFolder2 form. It was empty. I guess I don't understand this, the FSSession object is in the root folder, it is initialized in my index_html in the root folder, why doesn't SubFolder2 inherit the FSSession from the root? Problems of using Navigator products

Hi, I am trying to use the Navigator product in a Zope server. I use the navigator_demo/simple_demo as a starting point. However, when I add a NavItem under the navbar, it seems that renderItem can not detect the new added items and nothing changed in the navigator bar. What is the right procedure to add a NavItem? Zope crashing

Hi all I have a problem with zope crashing. Every now and again it is impossible to start zope, sometimes I have to run it in the forground to get it to work, but when I try to access the web site through a browser an error comes up on the server (linux) stateing Quota exceeded. Please, Please Help... What further information do you require. Steve
