I've uploaded a new beta of TinyTables to the Contrib section of zope.org. The main change in this version is a brand new interface for editing the data. The pick-your-delimiter fields are now replaced with a more flexible CSV-like syntax. The old system had several problems: first, it would have caused problems later on with a read-write tinytables. If your delimiter is ':' and someone cases an "add row" method to be invoked with a column containing a ':', you've got problems. Next time you edit the data through the management interface, you'll most likely mess up that row by accident when the ':' in the data is taken as a delmiter. Another problem was that people tended to do things like set the delimiter to ',' and enter a row like 'hello, there, world'. Either the second and later fields get an extra trailing space, or TinyTables has to strip columns of leading and trailing whitespace, meaning you can't have any if you really want it. With the new system, no problem. Strings can now include any characters, including newlines and nulls. See the TinyTable section in the Zope Help Interface for more information on the new input format. Other changes: - Columns can now be NULL (missing). Just as with SQL, sometimes it's important to distinguish between empty value and no value, or even more importantly for numeric fields, betweem 0 and no value. - "date" column type renamed to "datetime". New "date" type added that forces DateTime values to be date-only. (essentially does x = DateTime(x.Date()) - version.txt and README.txt added Note: I uploaded a version of this to the zope site last night. If you haoppened to be poking around and found it before this announcement, you might have downloaded a buggy version. Please make sure the version you get is 0-8-2. (Of course, 0-8-2 may also be buggy, but at least I don't *know* of any bugs :^)

How to expire cookie in DTML

How can I expire a cookie in DTML? I think I can figure out how to do it in an external but it would be more convenient to do it in DTML. Phil A

How about this for a fix: Change the line 235 in ZServer/HTTPResponse.py from self._channel.push(CallbackProducer(self._channel.done)) to self._channel.push(CallbackProducer(self._channel.done), 0) Please let me know if this fixes your problem. Check out http://www.zope.org/Download/Contrib to contribute your software. BTW, we also have a web mail product that uses IMAP that you may want to merge your POP functionality into. A combined product would be more powerful than two seperate ones. IMAPAdapter can be found in the public CVS, the second beta will be coming after Linux Expo. Since there are rumors (they're even rumors here, every now and then we hear paul and rob talking about things when they're coming to unchain us at 8pm from our desks) about some sort of open soucing of ZTables, I thought I'd give you all a breakdown on what it is, from my perspective. Zope 1.10.2 came with our indexing machinery "Below the Line" (meaning Open Source). The indexing stuff is really low level (can be only used in python) and faily straightforward. An index is basicly a fast way of searching through some mass of data. Over the past few years we've developed a product that uses the indexing stuff. Originally called DataPublisher, then Tabula, and now ZTables. ZTables allows a Zope manager to create, extend, maintain and publish tabular like data. "tabular like data" is defined as various columns (which define the schema) and any number of rows of data that fit that schema. A simple tabular like example is: id meta_type title one 'Folder' '' two 'DTML Method' 'Hi my name is Joe' three 'User Folder' 'User Folder' The columns are 'id', 'meta_type' and 'title' and there are three rows. This is all quite simple really, but ZTables gives you some unique abilities to do things with this tabular data. First, ZTables manages the schema. So new columns can be added or deleted. Ztables also manages indexes for all columns (columns can also not have an index). So searching through the data is very fast. ZTables can construct "imaginary" colums which are computed when they are accessed. These are called Computed Fields. ZTables gives you a Folder like management interface so you can add search forms, report forms, and other stuff right in the ZTable. ZTables also generates the fairly complex DTML reports and (potentialy) lengthly HTML forms for you. ZTables give you Hierarchies, to give you a more 'relational' feel to you data. There are also keyword hierarchies. ZTables lets you merge seperate subcollections into the ZTable, so you can bring various data sources into one sensible location. ZTables gives you the ability to upload and import various database flavors, including DBase, Rand, and comma delimited. We are working now on bringing some kind of ZTables 'core' into Open Source. Details cannot be revealed at the moment. This will be in conjunction with a release of some form of 'Catalog'. In fact, as it is now, our Catalog Product is just a wrapper around ZTables. -Michel

ZODB 3 UML Model

I've put together a UML (http://www.omg.org/news/pr97/umlprimer.html) Model for ZODB 3 (formerly known as BoboPOS3.) You can find a an HTML version of the model at: http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Models/ZODB This HTML documentation updates and replaces the Frame/PDF ZODB technical documentation. Many technical details havce been added. The most important change has been the addition of some protocols and object serial numbers to support distributes storages that allow multiple Zope (and other Python processes) to share a single database. Digital Creations has adopted UML for use in our projects and we are hoping to use UML models as a way of providing far more complete, detailed, and current technical information for programers and others who want detailed technical information. Over the next few months I expect that we will model the entire Zope framework as a collection of focused models dealing with specific aspects of the framework. We will release these models as they arte developed. Initially, we will be releasing these models in HTML form. Eventually, we hope to publish models in some standard UML interchange format, like XMI, and as UML-aware Zope sites. One of the challenges that we face is how to publish the models in a form that is useful for people with just the (HTML version of the) model. How can we organize the model so that people can understand the big picture (aka Zen) of the model as well as the details (eg classes)? The ZODB model represents one of our first attempts at this, so feedback on how well the model communicates ideas and suggestions for improvement are welcome. Since people asked for it, here is a new version of the input wizard. You can download from the usual place: http://www.zope.org/Download/Contrib/sqlinputwiz1.0.tar.gz New Features (from WHAT's NEW): 1 - Thanks to Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> now the Wizard supports Oracle and Sybase databases; 2 - You can make a column optional. If the column id isn't acessible by the insert sql method, then it doesn't take part in it. This way the row will have the database default value; 3 - If a string type can be null in the database then the sqlvar type is nb, instead of string; 4 - A quit button in every page for leaving the wizard before finishing. This way you won't leave garbage in the object database. Here a quick description from the README file: P MySQL Input Wizard will help you to create database insert interactions. Just select the tables and columns where you want to insert data and the wizard will create: 1. A form where you can fill your data 2. A SQL method with the correct command 3. A result page that calls the SQL method ... Advantages of using the wizard: o You won't have to learn Zope syntax to insert data in your DB:-) o No need to remember all your database tables and columns names o No more typos when writing your database insert forms and methods o Have consistent naming in forms and SQL variables o Waste your time building a usable interface, instead of writing repetitive code and looking for DB info The Wizard is reported to work with MySQL, Oracle 8.0.5 and Sysbase/MS SQL Server 6.5. It's very easy to adapt to other DBs. To do it take a look at comments in file DBInfo/InfoBase.py, and use the implemented DBs as examples.
