Fix for SiteAccess bug affecting ZCatalog users

There's a subtle bug in current and older versions of SiteAccess which can cause ZCatalog and dependent Products to fail. If you use an Access Rule in your root folder which alters REQUEST.path (for virtual hosting purposes, for example) then all ZCatalogs will return incorrect objects. In Products/SiteAccess/ChangeBehaviors.py, delete lines 68 and 69, or comment them out so that they look like: #if allow_btr: self.before_traverse(object, response) #entry_name = '' This ought to fix the problem. Please let me know if it doesn't. If nobody says anything, this will become SiteAccess v0.2.1 Also, a word of warning: Since ZCatalog doesn't store information (such as the request's hostname and port) used to determine object access paths under virtual hosting, you should avoid adding objects to a Catalog via one virtual host (or raw access) and retrieving them via another. Thanks. Yes. You can make a new Role, let's call it DomainUser. You give this Role all privileges that the Anonymous Role has, and you revoke all rights from the Anonymous Role. Now you create a new user, and call this AnonymousDomainUser. This user you give _no_ password, just leave the password fields blank. You do specify the domains however; it is a space separated list of domain specs, where each domain spec can be either a domain name, or an IP address, where wildcards can be used anywhere between the dots. For example: *.zope.org *.digicool.com 192.8.*.* is a valid domain spec. And you also give the user the DomainUser Role. Now, as soon as a visitor comes to your site from a domain that matches the domain spec, Zope will, without asking for a password, match him against the AnonymousDomainUser User, give him the DomainUser Role, and grant that visitor access. Storing an image (gif) in oracle table

Does anyone have any ideas on how to store an image (gif) into an oracle table through Zope. Zope doesn't seem to support BLOB's as an ZSQL Method argument. Thanks, DR

pipedream : fork a dtml-method within zope ?

Consider a discussion forum product where a dozen people have already participated in a particular thread. These people, when posting their messages, checked a box which said "email me when somebody else responds/adds to this thread". (Yes, this is nicked from Cold Fusion Forums :-) Now, a 13th person adds his 2 cents to the thread and posts a response. We want to now send a mail to each of the first 12 participants. No problem so far, except mailing all 12 people is going to take quite a bit of time, and contributor #13 is going to get impatient waiting whilst this is happening. Then imagine a discussion thread with dozens of participants/posts. Solutions : a. Write some script to go through the discussion forums looking for such follow ups and mail the previous participants in the discussion thread. Cronjob it. Tiresome/boring and not as instantaneous as I'd like. b. Is it possible in any way to fork that mailing process (which is actually just one dtml method), so that it can be completed without slowing down the rendering of the page ? I'm guessing this is totally beyond zope. Or am I overlooking something obvious ? TIA, Chas

Your Catalog has gotten out of sync, just click 'Update Catalog' and it will fix itself. It's due to asking for uid of a record that is no longer cataloged. I don't know what could have caused it in your case, probably something in your DTML methods for the ZClass. -Michel

Need help : Zope servers hanging.

Hi all, I need some help here - over the past few days two different Zope servers have gone into the 'hanging' state, where they don't reply to further requests. When the first event happened I didn't take a 'top', today, I've managed to get one. The process causing the problem is 12482. From previous messages, I believe that the python CPU can go up to 100%, obviously this isn't happening here. This happened when I asked the Zope server to make a MySQL query. The MySQL server is running fine and I can get to it from a command line interface. Both servers are Zope 2.1.2 source distributions running under Solaris 5.6 This server is running three different Zope sites using Apache as the backend (ie I'm using pcgi to get to my servers). I can't get to it using the pcgi route (ie a ReWrite Rule from Apache), nor from the ZServer incarnation of the server. I also can't get to it from the monitor connection (telnet localhost 8099). I can't let this situation continue as these are live sites. I need to restart the server whenever this happens.
