Using FTP to connect to Zope server from (g)VIM

Hi all, My intellect was piqued recently by a discussion on the list about editors for Zope etc. I remember some people saynig that VIM was good, to which my response was, 'Yeah but there's no FTP built in'. Someone then responded with a few scripts to do it. Well I thought they were a bit cumbersome, so I wrote my own. ftpopen.py and ftpsave.py. If you have a VIM executable with Python support built in then these run from within VIM and allow you to open/save file from/to Zope seamlessly. (I have them on a menu in GVIM for instance) I'll put the files up on my Zope Members bit (http://www.zope.org/Members/philh) along with a few instructions. If anybody can think of any enhancements then please let me know and I'll see if I can work them in. I hope these will be useful to someone. See ya Phil phil.harris(a)zope.co.uk

Silly send mail problem

Hi all, I had a sendmail problem, whenever I send out a mail from zope, it always contain an empty "To" ,"From" and "Subject", but I was able to get the body of the mail, anyone got this problem before ?? I'm using Zope 2.1.6 on NT and the mail server is from Lotus, and the form processor syntax as below : <dtml-sendmail smtphost="mail.xyz.com" mailto="wai(a)xyz.com" mailfrom="wai(a)xyz.com" Subject="Testing from my machine"> mail body </dtml-sendmail> Thanks. I suspect there is no 'standard' definition of week number. E.g. if the year begins on a Wednesday, is the following Monday part of week 1 or week 2? Once you decide, you can design a calculation starting with "some_date_object.dayOfYear()" which will give you the day number in the range 1 to 365 (or 366). The simplest algorithm would be to say days 1-7 are week 1, 8-14 are week 2, etc. In that case ((some_date_object.dayOfYear() - 1) / 7) + 1 (or in dtml) <dtml-var "((some_date_object.dayOfYear() - 1) / 7) + 1"> will compute a week number (in the range 1 to 53). If your weeks must begin on Sundays, or Mondays, or whatever, you'll have to first request the dow() from the first day of the relevant year, and do a calculation based on how far into the week the first calendar day of the year falls. If you want help with that, describe the algorithm you want to use. Good luck. email lists

Hi, Has anyone had any experience with storing a large list (several thousand) of email addresses in an object then sending an email to every one in the list through a MailHost? Will I need to send on email to all these addresses (multiple recipients), or one email for each person on the list. I am probably going to end up doing this totally within Zope since it is an easy solution to a problem, but am wondering whether I would be better off trying to get all the mail address into mailman or something. DTML: fetch an object by its url?

In DTML is it possible to get an object using its url? Something like <dtml-with "get_object( '/some/local/url' )">...</dtml-with> Similar to <dtml-with "_.getitem( name )">...</dtml-with> but what I have is the object's zserver url, not its name in the current namespace. TIA, Scott

Passing parameters to methods - how to?

Hi! I'm making my own user managements methods, and I'm stucked with a (simple) problem: How do I call another DHTML method, passing parameters to it, in HTML? I'm using a DTML Method that gives me a list of usernames. I want to click on the username and get the properties for that username. I wrote another DTML Method to do that, but I don't know how to pass the username to this second DTML Method. The username list page have, for every user, a line like that (suppose two usernames, fred and jorge): <a href="ManageUserProperties">fred</a><br> <a href="ManageUserProperties">jorge</a><br> How do I pass the username to the ManageUserProperties DTML Method? I have tried to use something like: <a href="ManageUserProperties?username=fred">fred</a><br> <a href="ManageUserProperties?username=jorge">jorge</a><br> It works, but the ManageUserProperties DTML Method have another form in it, that calls itself, using the POST method: <form action="ManageUserProperties" method="POST"> Clicking in the "submit" button, it gives me an error, telling that 'username' is not defined. So I included an hidden field with name="username" and value="<dtml-var username>", but I'm thinking this is not the better way to do that... Can someone helps me? TIA -- César A. K. displaying based on date

Hi everyone, I've created a ZClass and I'm using an HTML table to display certain properties of the class. One of the properties is a date, and I want to display in the table only those instances of the ZClass for which this certain date property is in the future. (It's a job posting ZClass, and I only want to display jobs that haven't yet closed.) I see in the ZQR that there is an 'isFuture' test that looks like it is associated with fmt. ZQR says for isFuture, "Return true if this object represents a date/time later than the time of the call." Can I combine this with a <dtml-if>? This tutorial looks great...it explained a lot of things to me that I wasn't able to put together before. But...on looking at it, a nagging thought keep recurring...this is a really quite long and complicated process for a Poll product. As much as I like Zope and thing it is a great platform on which to develop web applications, I often wonder about the complexity and obscurity of some of the procedures that need to executed while making what are, on the face of it, often quite simple web objects or applications. Consequently I have honestly had quite a hard time convincing PHP-savvy colleagues that the path to Zope Zen is something worth starting on. Does anyone else experience these nagging doubtful thoughts occasionally ?
