Using FTP to connect to Zope server from (g)VIM

Hi all, My intellect was piqued recently by a discussion on the list about editors for Zope etc. I remember some people saynig that VIM was good, to which my response was, 'Yeah but there's no FTP built in'. Someone then responded with a few scripts to do it. Well I thought they were a bit cumbersome, so I wrote my own. ftpopen.py and ftpsave.py. If you have a VIM executable with Python support built in then these run from within VIM and allow you to open/save file from/to Zope seamlessly. (I have them on a menu in GVIM for instance) I'll put the files up on my Zope Members bit (http://www.zope.org/Members/philh) along with a few instructions. If anybody can think of any enhancements then please let me know and I'll see if I can work them in. I hope these will be useful to someone. See ya Phil phil.harris(a)zope.co.uk

ZCatalog: AttributeError: 'None' object has no attribute 'load'

Hi again .. I've been getting these for a long time. A retry succeeds, but it's ugly if it happens to a client. It also happens pretty often (say eg. every 20th time I upload something to Zope). I have packed the database, but that didn't help. NT Service doesn't respond on stop request

I have Zope 2.4.2 running as service on Windows 2000. The service starts okay, but when I stop it from the Management Console, the service stops and then about a minute later I get the message "Could not stop the Zope (WebSite) service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." If I enter the "NET STOP WebSite" command from a command window, the service stops and the command completes without any error messages in about 20 seconds. Any idea why I'm getting the error message when stopping the service from the Management Console? Thanks Mark Snellings

Persistent DynPersist

Hi; Okay, I exported everything out of my old Zope Data.fs, completely rebuilt Zope and imported everything back into Data.fs. Now, I have this amazing problem. Seems that Zope can't import EMarket because there's no module named DynPersist. But it *does* import ZPatterns (a la TransactionAgents), er, rather, it imports ZPatterns as_long_as EMarkets is in the mix. If I remove the EMarkets module from Products lo and behold ZPatterns can no longer be imported and breaks! It just gets weirder and weirder. Here's a couple of tracebacks. Gosh, I hope this problem dies soon. It's very strange that one machine with IE5.0 works and one doesn't. Anyone else heard of something like this? As for the sluggishness, IE just gets fatter every time they rev it. But, so does Netscape for that matter. You probably need more RAM. Zope 2.4 Catalog Error

I am getting this error when adding a ZDiscussion Topic. It only occured after upgrading to 2.4. Any ideas: Error Value: Catalog addIndex now requires the index type to be resolved prior to adding; create the proper index in the caller. Thanks, Chris

Problems writing a new product

Hello, I plan to write a product derived from Folder which has some keywords as additional properties. Those keywords should be included as meta tags of the documents of this folder. I tried to understand the Zope Developers Guide and copied the basic folder class to MyFolder and did some changes. While I had some syntactical errors I´ve got a "Broken product" in my Zope product folder and found the error log. After fixing those errors I was quite happy - but now the Product vanished from my products folder after restarting Zope :-((. Any idea what could be wrong here? I'm using Zope 2.4.2 on a Debian GNU/Linux system. I might note that this could be caused by the following side effect. I had trouble installing the PageTemplate Product which was also not presented in the Products folder. When restarting Zope I've got: # /etc/init.d/zope restart Restarting Zope...WARNING: Python C API version mismatch for module pyexpat: This Python has API version 1010, module pyexpat has version 1007. ........ done. While doing my debugging stuff I did not see this Warning message. But when my Product MyFolder seemed to be syntactically OK this warning reapeared - and PageTemplates was in my Products folder mytseriousely. This is kind of strange but it might be that the warning is a hint that one of my products can not be installed and now MyFolder took over the role of PageTemplates? I append my really first try in a tar file. Could somebody please give me a hint? Kind regards Andreas.

Good development environment for Zope?

I just tested the WingIDE. It was a bit complex to set up, but not too much. Unfortunately, when trying to do the WingTest "walkthrough" to get started with Zope debugging and development, when trying to run a program, python crashed... So I gave up. I have no idea why that happened or what to do about it. So I'm asking you people here: How have you set up your development environments? Are you using any IDE? What editors are you using, how do you debug programs, how do you do testing, are you using any other applications as support for development? I'll answer my own questions first: IDE: No. Editor: Textpad. Debug method: Mostly "print" statements... Testing: Uhm, no, not really. Other apps: Nope.

Size of Data.fs: how big is too big?

Hi everyone, My Zope site has been growing fairly large lately and I'm beginning to wonder at what point I should consider moving files out of the Zope filing system and onto a static filesystem. At this point, I haven't noticed any performance issues at all. Currently, Data.fs is about 300 MB in size. The site is running on a Sun Netra X1 (400 MHz UltraSparc IIe) with 512 MB of RAM. How big a site can Zope handle?

Hi I'm a newbie with Zope, but have used it to build a fairly complex site recently. This site only had to support 91 users, all with access permissions, and quite a low traffic level. My studio is pitching to design a build a website for a very large organisation and I think Zope would be perfect. I need to know that it will be able to handle the amount of users and hits that this site will have to deal with. About 275,000 users to have accounts and about 150,000 hits a day (at the moment but set to grow quickly). Will Zope be able to deal with this?
