Session Management for keeping Python-Objects

Hello, I have an external method that returns a python-object to zope. Inside zope i would like to be able to store the object as a session variable in order to have access to this object inside one session. I have tried to do this using FSSession, but it's not able to pickle objects to a file. Which session management product would you propose for doing this? Thanks for any input, stephan

Zope restarting every 5-10 minutes

Hello, I have discovered a rather nasty problem with our Zope installation. We run both Zope 2.3.2 and Zope 2.4 on our server but we are migrating all our sites for 2.4 (but it takes time). One thing that bothers me with the 2.4 installation is that it restarts every 5-10 minutes - and I can't seem to figure out why. We run it on a Linux Mandrake 8.0 server ... I have searched the log file - but no go (or the only log file I could find is the Z2.log file) ... We have Apache in front of the ZServer so every 5-10 minutes we get a Proxy Error .... So here is my tragedy: I have an SQL query which pulls a record from a database. One of the fields is called file1. It contains a path to a file (i.e. media/inline/asdasd.jpeg). This file is accessible through LocalFS. LocalFS requires a syntax like media['inline']['asdasd.jpg'], so I wrote a script to convert the Unix style path to something LocalFS can understand. This works fine. Here is the code I use in my DTML doc to render asdasd.jpg: <dtml-call expr="REQUEST.set('imgpath',makeLocalFSPath(file1))"> <dtml-var "_.getitem(imgpath,1)" null="_[media['none.gif']]"> The first line calls the pythinon script that will make the LocalFS path. The second one endeavors to render the image using DTML's built in MIME to HTML technology which is necessary because using <IMG src=..... would not give me the with and height and is bad practice anyway. The null tag is just to shove that empty image marker in in case there is nothing in the field. When I call the page it gets a key error Error Type: KeyError Error Value: media['inline']['asdasd.jpeg'] But if I put <dtml-var "media['inline']['asdasd.jpeg']"> in any document in renders just fine. So basically the variable value gets rendered, but since It's not a variable but an expression, Zope doesn't know what to do. Oh and I tried putting double quotes on imgpath via the makeLocalFSPath function to no avail. Thank you for your help Jacob

ZMySQLDA Problem

Hi; I followed the instructions to install ZMySQLDA but ran into problems. exUserFolder, docLogin, cookie-based login

--I can't figure how to design cookie-based XUF login with Netscape 4.x. XUF seems to generate incorrect HTML that only MSIE can cope with. I need a different docLogin than the stock docLogin. I want to use acquisition: - I modified docLogin very slightly (only added some text), and saved it in the Zope root. - created exUserFolder in my FOLDER1. - deleted docLogin from the contents of that instance of exUserFolder. - created a LOGIN dtml method in FOLDER1. This login method limits "View" and "Access contents" permissions to Authorised role. Therefore it should trigger cookie-based login. When /FOLDER1/LOGIN is accessed, the following html is generated: [standard html header contents] <html> <head><title>Logging In</title> <META HTTP-EQUIV=Expires ...> <META HTTP-EQUIV=Refresh Content="0; http://localhost:8080/FOLDER1/acl_users/docLogin?destination=http://localho…"> </head><body></body></html> [standard html footer contents] The trouble is of course the [standard html header contents] and [standard html footer contents], because they ALSO contain <html><head> and </body></html>, respectively, and therefore they confuse Netscape. I tried to work around the problem by directing uses to click on the following link directly, instead of accessing a protected LOGIN page: <a href=http://localhost:8080/FOLDER1/acl_users/docLogin?destination=http://localhost:8080/FOLDER1/LOGIN> This approach lets users log in, but if they submit incorrect password, they are again presented with the "double head-double body" page described above. Is anybody using StructuredText tables ?????

I am trying hard to use StructeredText tables. However the only table featuring more than one line that is rendered correctly seems to be the one in the ST test suite. So if anybody could point me to an explanation of how to use tables (I did read the StructuredTextNG rules) or provide me with some more examples I would be very grateful. Robert

adding methods to AccessRule

Up until now, I have only used AccessRules for redirecting. I am adding additional logic to log info from the requests. I wrote a small DTML_Method to write info to a database and added it to the AccessRule <dtml-var smallscript>. However, everytime I try to save this line in the AccessRule, I get locked out of the folder and have to use "undo" to get back in. What am I doing that is offending AccessRules? TIA, Trevor

I am certainly not a windows defender, but to be fair, a lot of folks have had a relative degree of success running the windows port of Squid, which is a multi-threaded app. That said, I personally wouldn't put Zope-on-windows in a production environment without something in front of it. Perhaps Michael's most pragmatic solution would be to change his setup, not his platform. And I think that in this setup you should be willing to preemptively restart Zope on a scheduled basis to deal with memory leaks. Or better yet, if heavy traffic causes memory leaks, it would be nice is if Zope could be restarted by an external process if its memory footprint got too big, past a set max; on Unix there are always tools like mon to do this, but I'm not sure what tools might be available for Windows. reserved id??

Hello, What are the reserved id in Zope?? For example: I can not add an 'icon' document in my '/test/' folder. That's annoying during massive documentation import from the filesystem. So: 1) has someone the complete list of 'reserved' id 2) is there a way to get arround it. Thanks A, I have another question, but a difficult one this time, it's about zserver/medusa: I have the last zope running on linux x86, behind apache using pcgi. The access with pcgi is much slower than with zserver, so I would prefer to use zserver. But I am asking myself: - has someone a zserver diagram?? or a (clear) explanation of who it works. - which event trigger the thread creation: if I specify -t 10, I think zserver start with less threads. Are they created 'if needed' (when all other threads are busy) ?? where is the corresponding code. - what are zombies channel? anyway when are channel created? for every request?? - are the zombies channels killed? (there is a timeout of 100 mins it seams). BUT my last experimentation (~one year ago) was making me thinking the cleaning point is never reached. - is it possible to 'reserve' one http thread to management purpose? to be able to restart the zserver in case of hang?? ( I remind you that I am the proud creator of a very stupid method able to froze the zserver, see mailing link age ago :-) What is the percentage of productions sites using directly zserver???
