silly problem that's got me stumped

I'm trying in my standard_html_header (Zope 2.3.3) to detect the presence of a certain property on a file in a folder (specially, the "content" DTML Method, which is invoked by the index_html code, which says <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var content> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> All pretty standard. Now, the problem is, that if I put a certain property on the content file in this folder, it seems to be inherited by all subfolders' content files. Is that true? I hope you don't mind that I re-directed this back to the list. Doh, W2K! Darn, I even read that in your post. It *would* work, if W2K's ftp command had a switch that allowed it to use passive mode. A quick search of knowledge base turns up: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q271/0/78.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=… The gist of the article is: The FTP clients that ship with Windows do not support passive mode. Therefore, they always need to negotiate a data port when issuing a command that returns data. Never fear, however. It appears that you aren't the only poor soul that has been in this situation. In fact, a quick google search turned up some instructions on the GNU website that shows you how to get around the unfortunate problems with Window's screwed up ftp client. http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/windows/faq8.html#ange-ftp Basically, you need to download a different ftp client (there's a link in on this page) and tell Emacs to use it. anything wrong with this?

If I want Zope to my primary web server, any problem running it at port 80, and apache at 8080 for things like static files, mailman, etc.? (Flipping their usual ports.) Purging Z2.log

Hello, is there an easy way to purge the logfile without stopping the Zope process. I'm using AWStats for the statistics of my website, and have it sheduled to run every hour. Since it only processes the new lines, I would like to purge the logfile after each update of the statistics, to speed up the processing. Of course I don't want to stop Zope to do so. Is there a trick to do this? By the way, anyone ever thought of a Zope based statistics software? Cheers, Pieter

Zope + MySQL problem

I have a working Zope site that I want to move to a more powerful machine. I've set up the new machine (Debian GNU/Linux). I've moved Data.fs and everything looks fine. I've dumped the mysql database and reloaded it and everything looks fine ... except a query to the MySQL database that retrieves an integer record id value now retrieves it with the suffixed 'L' for a python long integer. This 'L' goes into a URL and breaks the next step in the process since Zope gives an error that '1727L' (or whatever) is not a proper integer. The code is basically the following inside a dtml-in loop on a database query: <a href="collect_stats.html?record_id=&dtml-record_id;"> This used to render as: <a href="collect_stats.html?record_id=1727"> and now renders as: <a href="collect_stats.html?record_id=1727L"> Why? I think adding a numbered virtual host directive containing a rewrite condition and rewrite rule will work. Taking your example and assuming your Zope is running on port 8080 of a machine name zope.example.com, try: <VirtualHost 192.168.1.1> RewriteCond %{SERVER_NAME} ^([^\.]+)\.test\.example\.com$ RewriteRule (.*) http://zope.example.com:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/%1.test.example.com:80/si… [P] </VirtualHost> The rewrite condition regex lets you capture the pseudo machine name, e.g. mark from mark.test.example.com in your example. The rewrite rule condition embeds the pseudo machine name in both the virtual host base the VHM uses to generate URLs and prefixes it in the path below the virtual host root and above your site directory. This rewrite should work with any pseudo machine name without the need to modify httpd.conf or restart Apache when a new pseudo machine is "created". Any incoming request for a machine which doesn't have a folder in Zope's /site folder should lead to a 404 - Not Found response from Apache.

Hi, Can someone help with an Apache rewrite rule for using VirtualHostMonster for mass virtual name based hosting? My corporate intranet needs to have several development and testing areas. What I'd like to do is have virtual hosts set up for each developer to experiment with - on the fly. The goal is not to change httpd.conf or restart Apache when a new vhost is set up. Apache will not know specific host names in advance. This will allow our developers to quickly put together proof-of-concept sites and send easy to remember URLs to other internal testers without mucking around with Apache configs or restarts. I have seen examples of using VHM to map domains to folders inside Zope, but I can't seem to understand how to send the correct info from Apache to Zope. I'd like to use wildcards in Apache so that as long as a folder exists in the right place (and with the right name) in Zope, the user will get to the right area. Example: Assume our domain is example.com. Internal DNS will be set to send *.test.example.com to 192.168.1.1 so all hosts matching that pattern go to real host "test.example.com." FTP hangage

I'm running Zope 2.3.3 under Python 1.5.2 on a RH Linux 6.2 box, and all has been well up to this point. I did some heavy work several months ago, with full FTP access working from Emacs, and then stopped until just now. Now, I can log in with Emacs and with an FTP client (all from W2K), but listing the top-level folder hangs forever. I restarted Zope with no success. Any ideas on where to start looking?
