BOA Constructor, CST, and setDefaultAccess

Hi all, I was trying to play around with BOA Constructor, but couldn't get into some Zope folders (BOA was throwing cryptic errors at me). I found out that the problem was with the latest version of core session tracking, which uses "setDefaultAccess('deny')" in both sessionData and sessionDataContainer. My quick fix was to comment these lines out, which I assume is not the best solution, but it got me going at least. CST is the only product I have that uses setDefaultAccess(). Anyway, just in case someone is interested to know (Chris?) Cheers, Jean

How to do a mouse over in Zope

I'm trying to get a mouse over to work and all I get is the text. hello. I´m a new Zope user and I have a problem whit the external methods. I´m reading Zope Book (Chapter 8:"ScriptingZope.html") and I can´t add that the external method "makeThumbnail", proposed there. It looks like zope doesn´t recognize the variable "self". Zope on CD ROM

Hi, I am producing a manual on CD ROM with ZOPE, like I found in the HOW TO "Running Zope off CD ROM" from Jens, 2001/07/13. It helped me a lot. Autoran starts the browser (with a first information page) and the ZServer starts in read-Modus at the same time. Afterwards the pages can be loaded. Unfortunately now I have some problems: 1. The ZServer needs a long time (nearly 3 minutes) for the start-up 2. The dos-window opens 3. The ZServer in read-Modus writes the Logs in cmd Maybe you can help me to answer my questions: to point 1: How can I shorten the loading time at the beginning? to point 2: Can I run the ZServer in the background, like a service from WindowsNT? to point 3: How can I manipulate ZOPE so it will not write Logs in cmd? Are you interested why I decided to use ZOPE? I think I'm a complete burke - Basic permissions and CGI

Okay, I'm missing something. In all the discussions of Permissions, roles, ownership, and security policies, the focus appears to be on multi-user systems, while I'm having problems implementing some basic anonymous CGI. I want any user to just paste some data into a textarea on a form. This form then launches a python script that extracts the relevant data from the pasted info, and stick it in an array. This array will then be used as the source for a SQL query, whose results will be used as the source for a ProComm script file. But before all that, I need to know just what the basic permissions and roles should look like for this fairly basic and standard CGI process. This doesn't appear to be rocket science, so where am I not looking? I've been reviewing The Zope Book, and the Web App Construction Kit, but they seem to focus on multiple users, which, while useful, seems to be much more than what I'm looking to do...can somebody point me at the right how-to or FAQ please? Photo product: how to recreate thumbnails with Imagemagick

Hi all, I'm using Ron's great Photo on my site. Until recently I was unable to use Imagemagick and had to use PIL to render the different images. I've got Imagemagick working now and the difference is dramatic! The PIL-rendered versions aren't even close to the Imagemagick-rendered ones. The uploader never notices any of this, except perhaps the site will become sluggish. None of this has anything to do with the counter in your example, except that a ConflictError is more likely to be raised when changing "hotspot" items like a counter. The example you provide of a counter is one that is problematic for ZODB for two reasons: 1. Multiple simultaneous commits which include counter incrementing can cause conflicts 2. The undoability of FileStorage causes the Data.fs file to grow on every successful transaction. These problems are orthogonal to each other; they are not related to each other in any way except that they both occur in the default Zope configuration. The first is solved via application level conflict resolution (http://www.zope.org/Members/jim/ZODB/ApplicationLevelConflictResoluti on) as well as a storage which supports it, the second is solved by using a nonundoing storage. So in the example you gave, you're most worried about problem #1, conflicts. To solve this particular problem, you would implement a "smart" counter that did not make itself a hotspot. There is actually already one of these that ships with Zope. It's in the BTrees.Length module, and it's a counter that does app-level conflict resolution. It's also a good module to take a look at if you're interested in seeing how conflict resolution works. Note that none of this is terribly different AFAICT than how most relational databases implement multithreadedness save for the fact that ZODB uses optimistic concurrency instead of pessimistic, allowing the app developer to be able to handle conflict scenarios in order to maximize performance. acquisition-based class initialization on Zope startup

Here's an interesting hole I dug for myself; any ideas on how to get out? The question comes down to: is there any (reasonable) way to invoke a Zope Python Script automatically every time the server starts up. I realize this is a little weird, since Python scripts, DTML methods, and the like are for creating client-side pages, but I've found it convenient to also use them for site setup, editing meta-information such as properties for classes, etc. Is there perhaps something like a product's __init__.py that gets invoked late enough to be able to do Zope.app().unrestrictedTraverse, or perhaps another way to get at the Zope scripts and methods? Here's what I did that makes me want a solution to this challenge. I have some classes defined in my product. Initialization of these classes includes setting up some properties. Originally, the properties were defined in a file, and my product's __init__.py called a function that read the contents of the file and did Zope API stuff to setup the properties. Then I decided that the properties should be web-editable, not in a file in the product implementation, so I moved the file contents into Zope DTML methods (by the way, what *is* the preferred Zope type of straight text?), and I wrote a Python Script that initialized the properties for the classes based on the Zope methods. This way, a site manager can edit the properties, execute that Python script, and immediately have all instances of the class see the changes. I discovered to my chagrin that when I restart Zope, all the class properties have disappeared (of course), and my __init__.py no longer recreates them. So I have to add back in to __init__.py a call to something to recreate the properties, but that something has to either call the Zope Python script or get the contents of the DTML methods that define the properties, and during product loadup it's too early to try to navigate the Zope object hierarchy (which I normally do via Zope.app().unrestrictedTraverse, which I can give a path to my Zope Python script, and follow it with () to invoke it, which works in the debugger after Zope has started, but not while my product is being loaded; in fact, Zope doesn't even have an 'app' yet at that point).

Hi all Roche Compaan has patched ZPatterns/SkinScript/Methods.py to make skinscripts FTP-able. This is very useful if you do your editing on the filesystem using sitecopy, for instance.
