Using FTP to connect to Zope server from (g)VIM

Hi all, My intellect was piqued recently by a discussion on the list about editors for Zope etc. I remember some people saynig that VIM was good, to which my response was, 'Yeah but there's no FTP built in'. Someone then responded with a few scripts to do it. Well I thought they were a bit cumbersome, so I wrote my own. ftpopen.py and ftpsave.py. If you have a VIM executable with Python support built in then these run from within VIM and allow you to open/save file from/to Zope seamlessly. (I have them on a menu in GVIM for instance) I'll put the files up on my Zope Members bit (http://www.zope.org/Members/philh) along with a few instructions. If anybody can think of any enhancements then please let me know and I'll see if I can work them in. I hope these will be useful to someone. See ya Phil phil.harris(a)zope.co.uk

*Designing* Zope sites

I've been learning about the workings of Zope: ZClasses, ZSQL methods, Python products, etc., and there are *lots* of resources about the APIs, and lots of products to add content to our sites. There is also lots of help on how to *set up* a Zope site: how to tie w/Apache, etc. What I haven't found yet, though, is much advice on how to *design* the Zope site: . effective ways to use User Folders . whether to make containing folders for like objects (eg book reviews), and collect these for lists with objectValues, or whether to add them under user folders/different contexts, and use ZCatalog searches to find them. . how to handle printable pages throughout a site . strategies for using ZSQL methods throughout a site and so on The Zope book tosses some nuggets of advice here and there, but doesn't build up a site, so we don't really get to see the workings of a talented Zope architect. Other documentation focuses on how to Do Things, like use SQL methods, or how to build products. I've had a little bit of time to look at the CMF, and that has some structure about reviewing, etc. (and seems to advocate the 'place things in user folders, use ZCatalog to find' method); however, I'm not designing something that seems so portal-ish, and this seems like a hegemonic solution to a design question. So: Am I missing any resources on fitting it all together? Are there 'example sites' that someone could describe? Would anyone with a well-designed site be willing to export it all up and post it somewhere, so we could explore it? I just tried searching for it on zope.org, on the mailing lists, and using google for good measure. Didn't find any mention of it anywhere. If anybody does come up with a link I'd love to see it. Yes - There's a pam module for Python, and with PythonScripts, External methods and a LoginManager setup, I got it working. Quite slow, which is fine if you only authenticate once, but not if you do it on every HTTP request. (Note: I never bothered to check if LoginManager does once-only or per-request HTTP auth - I only did it as a five minute test, and a quick check on the machine shows that the logs have rotated out :o() The PAM module for Python can be found at www.python.org, go to Search, in the Vaults of Parnassus link type PAM. I'm not sure the ticket you got could be put to any sensible use though... Maybe... Hmm, just had a thought... Silly send mail problem

Hi all, I had a sendmail problem, whenever I send out a mail from zope, it always contain an empty "To" ,"From" and "Subject", but I was able to get the body of the mail, anyone got this problem before ?? I'm using Zope 2.1.6 on NT and the mail server is from Lotus, and the form processor syntax as below : <dtml-sendmail smtphost="mail.xyz.com" mailto="wai(a)xyz.com" mailfrom="wai(a)xyz.com" Subject="Testing from my machine"> mail body </dtml-sendmail> Thanks. Yes, the point would be to be able to do this with ZServer and not Apache. Lacking an Apache server, and wanting to dump IIS, I opted for a ZServer only solution. I would expect to have a comparison function for each sort key, with the global comparison function a composition of that for the sort keys.
