Broken Zope installation

<Sigh> I appear to have a broken Zope installation. Some of the problems: 1) I have a set of PythonScripts and DTML methods which do the logic and presentation. All of the PythonScript can do this: print context.dtml_method(context,REQUEST,param1=data,param2=data) Fine. However, this site was imported from a previous installation. Any new PythonScripts (or any attempt to edit the existing ones) fail to do that, saying that: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: call of non-function (type list) I really don't think that the DTML method is of type list - this happens with old or new DTML methods, and old&modified or new PythonScripts alike. The weird part is that (provided you don't modify them) the old scripts work fine... 2) Restart or Shutdown from the Control Panel link fail with an error 5 (I/O error) - this only happens intermittently. I'm running the source release on RedHat 6.2 sparc - are there any architechtural issues? Cheers, Phil

How best to "filter" all HTML output?

I would like to use a common filter for the HTML output of any object in a folder. I want users to upload whatever HTML they want (from whatever horrible HTML generator) but then I want to be able to modify the HTML that results from that object. As a simple example, I want to be able to replace whatever is in "<title>" with the title of the object. I don't want the user to have to think about this; it should just happen any time an object generates HTML. (I realize that templates will eventually do something similar, but it will require that the user invoke the functionality.) I've thought of some ways to do this poorly. It will be such a big part of what we're doing however, that it is worthwhile for me to find an elegant solution. (I've done similar things in Apache over the years, but Zope has the potential to do it *much* better.) BTW, this functionality is sometimes used by providers wanting to force advertisements on their users' pages. That's not what I'm doing, but it is similar. (I seek to provide consistent navigation tools.) When I look at "Folder w/Customizer Support" I feel like I'm probably staring at the answer, but I'm not getting far in understanding it. I'd like to know if that's the right direction. Any thoughts? Thank you. --kyler

tree view in LocalFS

LocalFS has a property "Display in Tree View" which says: This controls whether the Local File System object will be displayed in the management tree and other instances of the <dtml-tree> tag. Indeed, checking this box causes the tree to appear in the left zope panel, but if I create my dtml method then the localFS can not be traversed in a dtml-tree. The localFS displays as a branch but there is no '+' to traverse it. Any thoughts? Thanks, David.

Silly question about the help system

Hi! I recently downloaded and installed the latest CMF release to take it for a spin. It seemed fun enough, but I did not truly "get" it, so I uninstalled it eventually. The annoying thing is, the documentation still appears in the help menus. What puzzles me is that I really did delete the full CMF folder, so there should be nothing left. That leads me to wonder whether Zope could have copied the help files to Data.fs, where it does have write access... Which is something I never really wanted it to do. That being said, this is no major problem to me and I fully recognize that this is no major issue. But I would still really appreciate it if Zope just deleted cached copies of deleted documentation. It's not like I want my help menu to permanently grow every time I try out a new, documented product. Or am I missing something? How to pass values from python script back to calling dtml-method ???

Greeting, people ! I may seem completely ignorant, but Zope namespaces are driving me wild for the last couple of days :-( I need to solve a pretty simple task: I have a dtml-method which calls a Python script. When that python script is through, it has a variable (say, returnValue="return value"). How can I access this variable in calling dtml method ? Please help !!!!!

Thanks to Peter B, I eventually traced the file down to a different disk...in the Windows/sytem32 directory. I've no idea why the file should get written there. Anyway, this *may* be why the problem arose... I edit my python files in the Extensions folder using the LocalFS product. I think when I update files I suspect something is not happening that should. Are the Extensions only loaded at startup, because I only got this working after a restart? Thanks all tom
