Using FTP to connect to Zope server from (g)VIM

Hi all, My intellect was piqued recently by a discussion on the list about editors for Zope etc. I remember some people saynig that VIM was good, to which my response was, 'Yeah but there's no FTP built in'. Someone then responded with a few scripts to do it. Well I thought they were a bit cumbersome, so I wrote my own. ftpopen.py and ftpsave.py. If you have a VIM executable with Python support built in then these run from within VIM and allow you to open/save file from/to Zope seamlessly. (I have them on a menu in GVIM for instance) I'll put the files up on my Zope Members bit (http://www.zope.org/Members/philh) along with a few instructions. If anybody can think of any enhancements then please let me know and I'll see if I can work them in. I hope these will be useful to someone. See ya Phil phil.harris(a)zope.co.uk

*Designing* Zope sites

I've been learning about the workings of Zope: ZClasses, ZSQL methods, Python products, etc., and there are *lots* of resources about the APIs, and lots of products to add content to our sites. There is also lots of help on how to *set up* a Zope site: how to tie w/Apache, etc. What I haven't found yet, though, is much advice on how to *design* the Zope site: . effective ways to use User Folders . whether to make containing folders for like objects (eg book reviews), and collect these for lists with objectValues, or whether to add them under user folders/different contexts, and use ZCatalog searches to find them. . how to handle printable pages throughout a site . strategies for using ZSQL methods throughout a site and so on The Zope book tosses some nuggets of advice here and there, but doesn't build up a site, so we don't really get to see the workings of a talented Zope architect. Other documentation focuses on how to Do Things, like use SQL methods, or how to build products. I've had a little bit of time to look at the CMF, and that has some structure about reviewing, etc. (and seems to advocate the 'place things in user folders, use ZCatalog to find' method); however, I'm not designing something that seems so portal-ish, and this seems like a hegemonic solution to a design question. So: Am I missing any resources on fitting it all together? Are there 'example sites' that someone could describe? Would anyone with a well-designed site be willing to export it all up and post it somewhere, so we could explore it? Hiya! Wow. That's good to know. I just created some fairly ugly code to get around the lack of something like a dtml-break. I just tried searching for it on zope.org, on the mailing lists, and using google for good measure. Didn't find any mention of it anywhere. If anybody does come up with a link I'd love to see it. Cataloging and uncataloging...

Hi, I am trying to catalog and uncatalog objects into a ZCatalog, but when I uncatalog/catalog I have to do it twice to work. Do I have to index or something like? using url_quote outsite dtml-var

Hi, I am constructing URL strings in dtml like so: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('link',BASE2 + '/' +sometext"> where I must to use the url_quote on sometext. Like with <dtml-var sometext url_quote>. [ANN] CMFLDAP product released

hi everybody, CMFLDAP is a standalone python product which replaces the membership tools in the CMF with LDAP-backend-compatible implementations. In order to work with an LDAP server it uses the services exposed by the LDAPLoginAdapter (http://www.dataflake.org/software/ldaploginadapter) and the LDAPUserManager (http://www.dataflake.org/software/ldapusermanager) products. **Important note** The minimum software requirements for this product combo are as follows: o Zope 2.3.0 or higher o a CMF CVS checkout or release after 4/27/01 o LDAPLoginAdapter 1.4beta3 or higher o LDAPUserManager 1.1beta2 or higher You can view some of the documentation and download the software at http://www.dataflake.org/software/cmfldap/. writing dtml on zope.org

Folks, I'm trying to get a feel for how important it is for you to be able to write DTML on zope.org. I feel like zope.org originally served as a place for you to try out zope and a place to learn about it. It gradually aquired a collaboration side with the fishbowl. Now I feel that zope.org's primary purposes are collaboration and education. The tryout feature has been largely surpassed by the free and for fee zope hosting that is availiable. Summarization and Zope

After searching the Zope's site and the web, this is a question I've come up with: Is anybody working on a Summarization product for Zope? Some weeks ago, after reading the Directions Road Map, I realized that the best way to include these kind of features in Zope was to write communication components to existing software, rather than dealing with new, complicated code, from scratch. But I'm assuming there aren't current projects on summarization written in Python, so if this is correct, this may be the right moment to start a new proposal on this subject, at least at a very basic level. Hello all - [I'm intentionally cross-posting this because there are a number of folks using CVS that may read only one or the other] If you've looked at the dev.zope.org site lately, you have probably noticed a preliminary Zope 2.4 plan: http://dev.zope.org/Resources/zope_240_plan.html The major goal of Zope 2.4 will be to make Python 2.1 the officially supported (and required) Zope platform. A project dedicated to assessing what that involves has been started at: http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Projects/SupportPython21/FrontPage Enough progress has been made on identifying tasks that we want to start getting some things done. However, this will have an effect on those of you that are currently running from the Zope CVS. We are soon going to begin checking in changes to the head of the Zope CVS that will require the use of Python 2.1. Once we start on the 2.4 tasks, you will not be able to use a public CVS checkout of Zope with older Pythons. We are not going to start this until after Python 2.1 final is out (expected next monday), but wanted to give CVS'ers fair warning. If you are using the current public CVS and don't want to start using Python 2.1, you should either avoid doing any CVS updates until you're ready to migrate or move off of CVS to a current (2.3.1) release.
