Why do you want to recode into DTML? I think that is piece of good code and much faster than DTML. creating a data edit form

Hi, (It is not my intent to cross post but I sent this to the Formulator list yesterday and still haven't seen it show up.) I'm pretty new to Zope so please speak slowly and use small words. :o) Several months ago I started a small learning project in Zope using Formulator. I got to the point of successfully creating data input forms, storing the entered data in ZODB objects, cataloging the objects, and using the catalog to retrieve and display data from an object. Life intruded and forced me to lay the project aside for a couple months but now I'm ready to pick it back up. I'm hoping someone can help kickstart me into the next step which is providing a data edit form to let the user change previously stored data. Currently, to show previously saved data, I give the user a drop-down box with all the record keys, let them select a key and click Submit, then use a Python script to query the catalog and print/return the selected fields (property values) to a display page. What I'd like to do is return the selected fields into the input form so the user can edit them. [...] The remainder of my use cases can be currently best supported by using a debugger + DocFinder, I agree, although I think there's still a need for an admin tool that lets you easily view and browse (multiple) objects, independent of if they catalogaware or has an ZMI interface. security (edit) problem for ttwtypes

I discovered a security problem in my plone/zope installation for every ttw-type. environment: - plone version 1.0.5 - os: windows 2000 - installed products: ttwtype, zopexmlmethods - created ttwtype 'ttwTypnamesFoo' in folder /myPloneFolder 1) at the root folder of my plone instance, I created a role A with permissions: a) Access session data und b) Access Transient Objects 2) I created user 01 with role A - correct: the user 01 never gets to see the tab with the edit-action - that's why on points 3) and 4) the access to the edit-form is done by typing the url directly in the url-field of the browser. 3) correct: - if user 01 wants to edit an object of type document (e.g. /Plone/index_html), the edit-form will be shown, but the user cannot save it. (-> msg: you are not allowed....) - url was: http://........../Plone/index_html/portal_form/document_edit_form 4) problem: - if user 01 wants to edit an object of a ttwtype (e.g. /myPloneFolderttwTypnamesFoo), the edit-form will be shown, and the user is ALLOWED to save it!! - url was: http://......./myPloneFolder/ttwTypnamesFoo/portal_form/ttw_edit_form any ideas how I can restrict the edit-and-save-access to my ttwtype objects? thanks for every input, david.

Sessiondata in SQL

Hi ya all, I wondered about integration applications in php better with applications in Zope and thought about even handing over sessiondata via sql. What is the contemporary way to have sessiondata in SQL RDBMS and are the drawbacks in it too much to even think about it - compared to using the ram based sessiondata? I tried to google but did not find that much information about whether people had written their own sessiondatamanagers or sessiondata storages to do this - hence the question. -huima

date formats

Hi all ! . can't get rid off my dates problems .. I would like the following python statements to apply validity checks on a date always inputed under format YYYY / MM / DD (GMT+1) The 2 first examples behaves as expected. The last one not. try: date=DateTime('2003/07/03') print date.strftime("%Y %B %d") except: print 'error' return printed 2003 July 03 (OK) try: date=DateTime('2003/03/07') print date.strftime("%Y %B %d") except: print 'error' return printed 2003 March 07 (OK) try: date=DateTime('2003/13/03') print date.strftime("%Y %B %d") except: print 'error' return printed 2003 March 13 (NOK) While I'm expecting an error (no months with id 13 !!!) it reverses the month part and the day part !! Why ?? Is that the normal behaviour ?? Or is there any parameter to provide so that python knows the format is always YYYY / MM / DD (the setup: Windows 2000 server Zope 2.6.2 python 2.1 ) Thanks for any help ! Phil.

Uploading audio mp3

Hello : ) I have tried to upload some mp3 music files to my zope 2.6.1. To do this I have both tried the "add file" option in the management interface and used the product "CMF-friendly Audio object" found here: http://zope.org/Members/bowerymarc/CMFAudio However when i play (view) these mp3 songs or embed them in a web page, some of the songs get a silent moment (about a second) just a few seconds after I start to play them. Now I wonder what could be the reason for this? I have tried to modify/compress an mp3 song using lame, but this does not help. I have also used winamp to study the diferences between the mp3 files that play well and those who does not. A difference I notice is that the well played songs are encoded by "Exact Audio Copy (Secure mode)", whereas the unsuccessful songs have no information about encoding. I do not know if this matters. zope 2.6.2-2 debian

I am attempting to start zope 2.6.2-2 with zope-cmf 1.3.2-1 zopectl 0.2.6 and get connection refused at http://localhost:9673 root@toolbench:/etc/zopectl# /etc/init.d/zope restart Restarting Zope instance default... Waiting instances in late: default(0), done. Could this be a good install, but needs content before it will reply? all howtos I find say I will get a quickstart page if I get this far, so I have been looking at the install steps...for problems. permissions problems withthe debian package seems likely.
