I'm not sure what you need -- I assume you want to do a search for Zope objects based on their content, then do a search and replace on their content. The "by hand" apprach is to use the FIND tab to locate the objects and then edit the objects through the ZMI. Is that right? If that works for you, take a look at the ZopeFind method in lib/python/OFS/FindSupport.py. Using that you can get a list of (path, method) pairs of objects to be edited. You then would need to write a zope method to do the actual edits. (You probably should copy the zope list on all communications liek this as (1) you get input from a larger group, and (2) others can benefit from the collective solution to your problem. I'm a bit unsure about the details of the 2nd change. Can value legitimately be a list (i.e. can items be a list of lists?) Zope 2.5.2 vrs 2.7b2 for speed

So I have been reading about how Python 2.3 is about 25% faster than older pythons and I thought I would try it out on some Zope goodness. I compiled Zope27b2 with Python2.3 and started doing some benchmarks. I tweaked a bunch of settings like what servers to start up, debug mode, interval check times but with all of that I could get Zope to max at about 60 requests per second using Apache Bench with 25 concurrency and 500 requests. I went back to my handy dandy Zope 2.5.2 installation and tweaking it I could get it to serve up at about an 85-90 RPS. For these tests I had nothing else running, I ran them more than a few times (for caching to catch up) and shutdown and restarted the servers to make sure there was nothing bad in one run. So is this a Zope27b2 thing? Is it a Python2.3 thing? Am I just testing too many different scenarios so it is not a good test? All of this on my MacOSX 1GHz G4, 2 GB of ram and a 120GB 7200 RPM WD SE drive with 8MB of cache. Caching custom ZClasses

Hello, I've created a set of custom ZClasses, and can't associate them with a cache manager. I see there isn't a baseclass available in the ZMI that corresponds to the 'Cacheable' class in 'cache.py' in the OFS directory of Zope. I suppose I could subclass another class that is cacheable, like DTML Document, but will that just cache the DTML Document portions of my class? I just want my ZClass to be cacheable, so ideas are welcome. much thanks, bart

Confusion about thread safety

Hi, after reading several things about thread safety, i'm a little bit confused by the fact that the words threads and connection are used in too various contexts. So i'll ask a simple question. With a basic Zope server, without any other DB, what happens when two different users want to commit changes made to the same object at the same time ? are the two requests, two different threads ? ZODB speaking.

VS: A disappeared cookie..

Hello :) ..I try to send this message again, as I received no answer. Maybe it disappeared in the mess with the large virus attack some days ago. To personalize a website I use cookies. That is; when a person chooses a link, a cookie is set like this: <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.setCookie('guest', 'C')"> Now, this cookie is used to either include or not include a table of contents on all of the following pages that I (or actually guest C) visits: <dtml-if expr="REQUEST.has_key('guest', 'C')"> <dtml-var site_map> </dtml-if> The <dtml-var site_map> looks like this: <a class="map" href="&dtml-URL0;?expand_all=1">Show all</a> <br> <a class="map" href="&dtml-URL0;?collapse_all=1">Hide all</a> <br> <dtml-tree expr="topics"> <a class="map" href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a> </dtml-tree> (topics is here the folder containing all the pages that guest C may visit) This works fine untill guest C presses some of the links generated by the <dtml-tree>. If he or she for instance presses the Page 1 link, he comes to page 1, but page 1 does not include the <dtml-var site_map> even though page 1 still has the same <dtml-if> statement: <dtml-if expr="REQUEST.has_key('guest', 'C')"> <dtml-var site_map> </dtml-if> It looks to me as if the cookie has disappeared. Sort problem

Hi, I'm trying to create a list of titles, sorted alphabetically, but want to sort ignoring initial stop words. I've set up an index for title_or_id, which works fine, but "The Resource" ends up listed under T. I've tried using a Lexicon, but these seem to only be able to be used for Text Fields, which can't be used in a sort. Is there another way to do this? Cheers Michael Davis
