request object not including querystring args

Can anyone tell me why the first script is returning None for request.get('argClsRecId')? Script: request = container.REQUEST response = request.RESPONSE print request.QUERY_STRING print request.get('argClsRecId') return printed Request URL: http://localhost:8080/scripts/actAddSubjectReport?argClsRecId=159&argStuRec… Output: argClsRecId=159&argStuRecId=2288 None But if you try this script: request = container.REQUEST response = request.RESPONSE for x in request.items(): print x[0], x[1] return printed argClsRecId and argStuRecId are there (along with all the other things). (Or if they did, failed miserably) My only real reservation is that Zope seems very stuck on making everything a web interface. Personally I don't like web interfaces for most things. I would like to write my programs so that they use the XML-RPC publishing and integrate my client programs with user programs such as eclipse and openoffice.org. For example, one thing I am working on is a requirements management system that stores the data in an application server (hopefully Zope) but the users write their requirements documents in openoffice and openoffice interacts with the app server to store the requirements. I want the main user interface to be openoffice for that, not the web. The web interface would probably just be a read-only view for people who won't download openoffice. Is something like that reasonable in Zope? Proxy roles

I have a question concerning proxy roles. The problem I have encountered is that when I grant a proxy role to a script, other scripts and templates called from that script do not posess that role. popen2, popen3, popen4 and Zope

The popen libraries don't seem to function properly when used from a Zope External Method or product. I use the standard idiom -- i, o = os.popen2( cmd ) i.close() res = o.read() but Zope seems to hangs on the read whenever cmd is anything of any complexity, for example, a shell script that fires off a python instance that detaches itself and then initiates another insance of Zope. Is the problem a threading issue? Is there a preferred mechanism for spawning a process?

Dynamic Reference, mixing ZOPE and SQL

I have a sequence of code that is monstrously inefficient and am looking for help. I am storing the id tag of an ExtFile object in my sql database along with other information and am now creating a page that displays info from the database record by record. For each record displayed, I also want to pull the file size from the Zope side of things. The method which works is something like this: <dtml-in my_query> <dtml-comment> query returns file_id amongst other values </dtml-comment> <dtml-with files> <dtml-in "objectValues(['ExtFile'])"> <dtml-if "id == file_id"> <dtml-var size> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> With a 1000+ ExtFile objects in the "files" folder, the search is ok for just one record being displayed; however, if this page is displaying all 1000+ files based on the SQL records, then for each SQL record returned it is iterating through the entire contents of my files folder, and is very slow to resolve. What I am looking for is a way to say: <dtml-in my_query> <dtml-comment> query returns file_id amongst other values </dtml-comment> <dtml-var files.file_id.size> //where file_id is a dynamic ref // not the id itself </dtml-in> However, I don't know a good method for doing a dynamic reference here, such as the following which fails: <dtml-in my_query> <dtml-comment> query returns file_id amongst other values </dtml-comment> <dtml-with files> <dtml-in "objectValues(['ExtFile'])._['file_id']"> <dtml-var size> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> I am just extrapolating from things like using "sequence-item" in an expression changes it over to "_['sequence-item']". Not even sure the dtml-in would work the way I want, but the idea is there. Maybe to effectively use something like this to reference an object I explicitly know: <dtml-in my_query> <dtml-comment> query returns file_id amongst other values </dtml-comment> <dtml-var "files._['file_id'].size"> </dtml-in> The above approach throws unauthorized exceptions, so obviously not the right way to go about it. Win2k Processor Affinity

My production machine is a dual-processor machine running Windows 2000 Server with zope running as a service. I understand from previous posts that setting processor affinity, i.e., making python/zope run on only one of the processors, may be a good thing. Since this is my production machine, I would rather not experiment too much. What I have is the imagecfg.exe program from http://www.robpol86.com/tutorials/imagecfg.php, and the instructions are to run imagecfg -u file.exe imagecfg -a 0x1 file.exe on the executable file I would wish to set affinity to processor 1 on. I see that in Task Manager, I cannot set processor affinity manually on my python process. I get "access denied." I am running what I presume is the stock win32 install of zope-2.6.2. It began as 2.6.0, but has been upgraded. So, now for the question: Has anyone done this? Is the above procedure the correct way to do this? Like I say, it's a production machine, and I would rather not experiment. Which executable(s) should be imagecfg'd? Is it the python.exe in [zope]/bin? Or the .exe that starts the service? or a .dll or two? -- Jim Washington
