Has anyone come across NVU, the Mozilla based web page builder? I'd be interested to know how suitable it would be for a Zope based web site. Does anyone know if it supports WebDAV? -- John

Basic application

Hi, I very often have following problem and wanted to ask here about the best way to do it. Very many times I have a container folder (e.g. caldendar) with objects inside (e.g. a schedule entry of a calendar). The user can perform 4 basic actions on these objects: 1. Display them - this happens via index_html in the container folder 2. Create them - this happens via a dtml-document addEntry with a form The script then calls addAction 3. Modify them - this happens via a dtml-document modEntry The script then calls modAction 4. Delete them - this happens via a dtml-document delEntry I ususally put all this functionality in a ZClass to use it at several locations of a site. What I find very inconvinient is that I always have to write the addEntry and modEntry script. That is always two scripts that are very simmilar. I need ZClasses with functionality as above very often. Is there a better way to do it? Thanks Eddy

controlling UDP socket defaulttimeout in External Method

I am running ZoPe v2.6.2 which uses PyThon v2.1.3. I have some Python code to send data to a business partner over a UDP socket. I'm trying to call that code from an External Method. The socket.setdefaulttimeout() function wasn't defined until Python 2.3. If I want to control the timeout period for this function, how would I do it?

Zope 2.7.3 Upgrade: How I did it

Just upgraded to Zope 2.7.3 from 2.7.2. Here's what I did: Fedora Core 1 Linux Python 2.2.3 Plone 2.0.4 Existing Zope instance is at /var/zope-instance ./zopectl stop Backed up Data.fs cd /var gunzip Zope-2.7.3-0.gz mv Zope-2.7.3-0 Zope-2.7.3-0.tar tar -xvf Zope-2.7.3-0.tar Zope-2.7.3-0 zope273 cd zope273 ./configure --prefix=/var/zope273 --with-python=/usr/bin/python2.3 make make install Did not run: /var/zope273/bin/mkzopeinstance.py as I have a zope instance already. Then manually edited: /var/zope-instance/bin/runzope /var/zope-instance/bin/runzope.bat /var/zope-instance/bin/zopectl /var/zope-instance/etc/zope.conf to reflect the new /var/zope273 directory Then restarted Zope cd /var/zope-instance/bin ./zopectl start And zope starts and runs. permissions problem writing file from External Method?

My Zope v2.6.2 ExternalMethod is giving me an error when I try to open a file for writing. Error: Module /home/zope/Zope/Extensions/notifyAdt.py, line 88, in seqPut IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/home/lii/logs/notifyAdtSeq.txt' That line of code: sf = open(path+seqFile,'w') (Since this code is also run outside Zope I just use a little file to hold a single value that I want to persist over time - it gets incremented each time.) I think I've made the file as available as possible. -rwxrwxrwx 1 lii lii 1 Oct 27 13:39 notifyAdtSeq.txt Any idea what's going wrong here?

RPCAuth on debian

[crossposted from plone list - on reflection, probably more a zope problem that a plone one, and I got no response there anyway. Forgive my newbie confusion - still sorting out what is zope and what is plone] I've installed Zope 2.7 on debian (unstable). My intent was to try Quills, the plone weblog software. But Quills is reporting itself as broken, apparently due to lack of RPCAuth. The immediate problem, however, is RPCAuth. It doesn't appear to be installed, and if I add it as a product to my Zope instance, my Zope instance never accepts connections at all, including management connections. Any suggestions as to what might be going wrong? Or where I might look to find out? Or is RPCAuth more complex to install that just unpacking it in the appropriate directory? Regards David

Russell, I sympathize. I am in a similar position (corporate intranet uses a proxy that authenticates before proxying). My solution so far has been to use Zope-2.6.2 in PCGI mode. This has left quite a bit to be desired (slow, seem to be some buffering issues that prevent download of large content). I've brought it up on on this list before but everybody says the same thing that they are saying to you, i.e. "that's the wrong way to do it". Unfortunately, for me it is the only way I'm allowed to do it. I was quite optimistic that Plone might catch on here, but I can't even get my site to work 100% so people are quite hesitant to use it. Because I'm using PCGI I'm stuck with Zope-2.6.2 so not only does the site not work 100%, I can't even run new versions of anything. You might look at some of the customizable authentication products. I've looked at some of them and while several claim great flexibility through custom plug-ins, I couldn't really understand how to accomplish what I needed to do. Apache ProxyPass to Zope

Good evening list, I have been trying to get the REMOTE_USER variable to be seen by Zope. I have almost got there by using various articles on the Internet, but I need a little bit of help to get the last bit working. I have got Apache performing the authentication and this works well as I get the Zope page when I enter a valid username and password. I have noticed that the Z2 log file for my Zope instances contains the username that I have used to access the site, but I cannot get Zope itself to see the username - this is the most confusing bit for me as it surely means that the username is being passed to Zope. The following is a snippet from my Apache: <Location /zope> AuthName "Zope Access" AuthType Basic <AUTHENTICATION ROUTINES> require valid-user ProxyPass http://x.x.x.x:8080/zope </Location> ProxyPassReverse /zope http://x.x.x.x:8080/zope This all works brilliantly apart from the fact that I cannot get the username in Zope. I need this do I can do some custom authorisation to a database that my Zope application accesses. I have tried many different variations using RewriteRule and trying to set the environment variables but to no avail. Thanks to anyone that can give me some pointers. Russell
